Sprint BIS can't access server for IMAP or OWA

I am trying to set up my bb curve for access to my email via either IMAP or OWA. My corporate email is set up for access either way. Previously this same blackberry was using redirector for email delivery for the same email address, but I am now using a laptop which isn't always on, so I need another solution (but not BES).
When I try to set it up, using either the Sprint webpage (sprint.blackberry.com) or using my phone, i get an error message that the server is incorrect or it can not be reached.
I have verified and reverified that the server information is correct, and have also tried the I.P. address as well with no luck.
I'm not the network guy and unfortunately our guy on staff knows less about BB then I do. Does anyone have any thoughts on why this would be happening. I called sprint and they were not able to help me other than to tell me to have the email server reset...
