Default Hibernate question

Please Login to Remove!

Just got the Torch yesterday as I moved up from my trusty old 9000 because I was running into trackball issues, and quite honestly I was itching to give the 9800 a spin.

I have a question about the device going into hibernation mode. Isn't that supposed to happen when it's holstered? I'm still using my holster from my Bold 9000 (since the 9800 fits in it), so I'm not sure if it's the case or the phone.

I also had my profile set to ring when unholstered and vibrate when holstered, but it still rang when it was in the holster.

I was given a 9800 specific holster that's at home as I was saving it as I seem to go through holsters pretty quickly and the one from my Bold is still relatively new, but I may have to open it up.

BTW. I'm still getting used to it. I think the touch screen is a HUGE improvement over the old Storm. The keyboard is no where near as good as the old school Bold (9000). That has to be the best keyboard RIM has ever put on a phone.

The magnet in the 9000 holster may be in a different place then is needed for the 9800, so it may not be going into standby.

Actually the magnet on the 900 holster is in the right location as I'm using my old 9000 holster for my Torch. As long as the screen faces in, the magnet
puts the BB into standby properly.

I am currently using my 9000 holster as well. They way I use it, I have the screen facing in, and when the flap is closed, the screen goes dark, and the phone is in "sleep" mode.

My 9000 holster is pretty beat, the same one out of the box from my 9000. I just ordered the 9800 holster as I need a new one, and while it fits in the 9000 holster, it's very loose being the 9000 was a "bigger" device then the 9800.

I am also using the 9000 holster since AT&T was too cheap to include one.

I actually got both a holster and a car charger from the AT&T store where I got mine, but I paid $199.

Using the new holster does cause it to sleep. I guess my issue now is a little different.

With my 9000, I had it set for the handheld to be locked once it's holstered. When unholstering you then hit "*" and "<Send>" to unlock the device. With the 9800, unless I'm missing something, the handset will go to sleep when holstered, but won't lock unless I have a password set. As a result, because this is a touch screen device, many times when I unholster the device is in varying states of some menu.
