Can I buy the 8700C from either Amazon or Buy for just Data service. I have a phone service with verizon, I just ported out of Cingular, and was interested in getting the 8700. $150 is a pretty good price. Can it be done?

8700c is a GSM phone. I think Verizon is CDMA so that will not work. You may have to switch back to Cingular if you want to use the 8700c.

Don't forget that to get most rebates you have to be on the carrier for a min. length of time, on a min. plan$ and in some instances you have to wait a certain amount of time before re-signing.

I would wait until Verizon gets the 8700 before buying a Cingular BB and trying to switch. Like others have said, if you get the Cingular BB, there are penalties for terminating early. You can read the fine print at the Amazon site, which does require Cingular service and I believe the $39/voice plan.

I dont want phone service. I want Data only. I never had a data account. I used to have AT&T phone for cell service. I ported to Verizon. Now, I need a blackberry, my company only lets you get blackberry, for data. So, would i be a new customer for a data only plan. I would like to get a Data only plan from Cingular and buy the 8700 from Amazon or Buy, since they only charge $150 for the device.

I hear what you want to do, but the fine print says you need a "voice plan", now you can call them and ask, since a unlimited data plan is $49.99 they might be ok with it. I would also call cingular and ask about a data only service.
