I'll be going to london for a week and would like to receive my email and have internet access while i am over there....when i go to tmobile's (i have an unlocked 8700c- am tmobile user) site and punch up my account I see the following options:

BlackBerry Unlimited International E-mail ($19.99)

BlackBerry Unlimited w/Enterprise Email Add-on ($29.98)

According to the description the unlimited int'l email will allow me to send/receive email however it does not mention anything about internet access. The unlimited with enterprise email allows for unlimited email and internet however, it is only with BES i believe.

I am not on BES and am using the blackberry for personal use, will i be stuck with no internet access when i'm in london with the first option? thanks

I have never been charged for use of T-Mobile and Blackberry browsers while in the UK with the Unlimited Intl BB data addon, including Verichat.
I am on BES.

i'm not on BES.........so that's not an option for me, i wonder why they don't have an int'l non BES addon service

If you are not using BES, step down to the 19.99 add-on.

But like Irdiaz said, you will have web access over there.

$19.99 is good for a month, maybe not for a week, depending on your usage. Have you thought about the trade off there? It's an exhorbent amount for data roaming ($15.36/MB). But maybe you dont use that much bandwidth while traveling.

On Feb. 2nd, Tmobile responded as follows to my similar question re: data costs while in Cabo, Mexico. I didn't do any Web browsing while there, and turned off push on the browser. Email worked great. I subscribed to the $19.95 international bb plan, then turned it off 8 days later (just after my return). I'm using a 7100t with BIS (no BES). I set up my phone to forward all calls (to voicemail which instructed the caller to send me an email if they really needed me) before I left the states so I wouldn't get clobbered with roaming charges ($1.49 minute in Cabo). I turned on the 7100t around lunch each day, and responded to emails. I haven't received my bill yet:

Dear Paul,

Thank you for taking the time to contact T-Mobile. I do apologize for the delay in a reply to your email. If you forward all calls directly to the other number with the forward all calls the minutes would not be charged roaming and they would be just taken from your allotted rate plan minutes.

The Blackberry Internet Email is for email thus the attachment will not be charged if included in the message received. Though if you go to another link or browse the Internet there would be a charge for the transfer of data in amount of 15 dollars per MB.

If you have any further comments, questions, or concerns feel free to contact us at anytime.

This is interesting - and in direct conflict with what a bunch of users posted in the other thread about TMo international roaming. In that thread, a bunch of guys insisted that the $20/mo plan included not only email but data (i.e. web surfing) as well. This too despite the fact that the name of the plan says email and nothing about web surfing.

Frankly I'm inclined to believe the info supplied by "Oscar".

Yes this is worrisome. I'm heading over to GER for two weeks this summer for the World Cup and bringing my unlocked 8700c. My kid will use my old 7100t and I'll have to remind him NOT to do any web browsing on it while we are there.

I've used my BlackBerry in Germany, England, Malta, Iceland, Peru, Chile, and Easter Island while on the $19.99 unlimited international email plan. I used the web browser, verichat, BB Today and received a ton of email in all of these international locations and never paid a penny more than the $19.99 (except for taxes of course). Therefore, my conclusion is the unlimited international email also includes data. It has in my case.

You must decide on whom you trust a T-MO CS or real users with real international usage.
Since spring of last year, I've spent three weeks of every month in the UK with a BB7100 and BB8700c, and used BES & BIS mail, Verichat, Pocket Express, T-Zones & Internet Browsers, and never incurred extra charges.

Okay, Now I am horribly confused. I am buying the blackberry 8700 for my husband for Valentines Day. And I do not know which company I should go with T-Mobile or Cingular (I think they are the only two companies who offer service on this particular Blackberry). My husband is in the military and travels a lot. Right now he is over in United Arab Emirates, he visits Dubai and Bahrain as well (all of the eastern coast of Saudi Arabia). I don't want this plan to cost him an arm and a leg when he is over in the middle east. I know that Iraq has no service there, but he usually is not over there anyway.
Wonder which company and which plan I should pick for him.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Also, anyone check out the HP Ipaq HW6515 yet? Is it better then the Blackberry 8700?

My reply from TMOB customer service rep Oscar came about 10 days after I asked the questions I posed in the email (after I returned from the trip). I just checked my TMOB statement on myTmobile.com, and the only charges I have for Mexico are the partial month on the international email plan, and the 1 phone call I made using my 7100t ($16 for an 11 min. call!).

I think I would trust what you've heard from users who utilized the browser in Europe. Before I left, I made about 3 calls to TMOB customer service asking the same questions Oscar answered, and not one of them seemed to have any real clue regarding the charges.

I guess what I'd do is be judicious in my use of the browser just in case.

Tmo does not sell the 8700c yet. You can buy one from Cingular and have it unlocked (for full price 450+tax) or you can just stick with cingular. I have mixed experiences with cingular - my global roaming has worked out very well with tmobile. I know it's confusing, i have switched back and forth myself. I should also mention that Cingular will unlock the phone (contract or no contract) if your husband is in the military. They (tmobile as well) will also give you a discount on your service (around 15%).
You can pay full price for the phone - start with cingular and then switch to t-mo after they unlock the phone - or you may like Cing enough to stick with it.
You may also accept the subsidy, (they will still unlock the phone), set up the govt discount, and leave Cing if you don't like the service (but you will pay a penalty).
Personally (I also travel for work) I use T-Mobile.
I have spent some time in Kef & Rek also...

A very good friend of mine has the HW6515, he quite likes it, especially the GPS function. He also uses the HW6515 in a variety of other ways because it has 2 mini SD slots (I think mini SD and not standard SD, but don't quote me on that). For me, my needs aren't quite as fancy, the biggest reason that I use my BB is for the push email, it helps me cut down on the clutter in my inbox. So, it's really a question of what your husband needs the most. A semi-laptop replacement? Or something that would serve a specific function but also provide a smattering of other functionalities.
