What will this do to a verizon unit? Will I still be able to tether, for anyone thats tried this already?

Also, if I do a full backup, do I need to add all my buddies in BB messenger again, or is that backed up and restored as well? Thanks

Should be fine to install. Should be fine to tether. All should be restored. Someone using Bell Canada tried it last night and it worked fine.

Installed, worked like a charm. Although, this issue has not been fixed as I was hoping new firmware would do. http://www.blackberryforums.com/showthread.php?t=33484

it does appear that there are issues right and left with the compatibility of EVDO networks and BlackBerry handhelds (especially the 7130e). it could simply be a network issue, though - may have to simply wait on Verizon to make their radio config changes rather than RIM with generic bug fixes.

So far so good. Although, I kept getting an error everytime I tried to update the handheld until I rebooted my PC. I'm about 50% through now with no problems yet.

I never had a problem with the erratic signal before so we'll see what this does to it.

75% done...

Uh oh... I've been stuck at the final device initialization for awhile now. The spinning hour glass is starting to scare me a little bit.

Installed this on a verizon 7130e. Seems to work good so far. Funny how it includes other provider themes. The zen is a nice theme though.

Only complaint, is you dont see if your on 1X or 1XEV, as the icon that normally shows this is a werid icon while using Zen. You would think they could program that to say 1xev.

a lot of people wanted this version of the OS simply for the support of the Zen theme (yes, its a sad world we live in). the ALX file simply unlocks that and the other carrier themes for whomever chooses to have it.

Without the ALX file, the zen theme worked fine. The ALX file just added other themes...

My first post (I'm more of a reader) but I wanted to say thanks for putting this thread together. I just completed the switch and it is great! It was easy and worth it to have multiple theme options (esp. Zen-- ). Thanks again!

Jibi, any word on if this will eventually show EVDO, instead of some weird icon?

Works great...

The whole thing taks about 25mins depending on the amount of stuff on your bb, but the "Waiting for device initialation" does seem to take for ever it took alittle over 6mins , you just have to wait. I have been upgrading a other peoples bb to 4.1 over past week and the best thing to do is to just walk away and let it do it thing, insteed of watching it and thinking "oh no did i kill my bb"....

<-- cool my 100th post, this site is way to addictive

i don't personally have a 7130e, so i have no clue. verizon's EVDO service ends about 40 miles north of where i live, and outside of Atlanta, it sucks (same goes for Sprint in this area), so there's no reason for me to even care about having their service...

Just wanted to add my say in this. I have a 7130 from VZW and upgraded per the instructions above. Worked great. I also have a 7105t from TMO but I don't use it much. Never upgraded that unit except to download a theme OTA (O2 theme which I am glad to see on the 7130 now.)

It is a bit on the funny side to see other carriers theme's in there. I'm with the others above that wonder if someone can work some magic and fix the wierd symbol the shows where it should say 1XEV. On most themes including the Zen ones it shows }~ The only theme that seems to work right besides the VZW theme is the Bell theme.

On an unrelated note that I should post in a different post, why do none of the themes on the 7130e show which provider you are currently using? I know on my TMO 7105t it always indicates the name of the carrier on the screen. I see in most pics of a 7130e the banner reads "Verizon Wireless" when you are in their range. I know the 7105t changes to different carrier names when you are roaming.

Thanks
