Default Service Indicator Light: Sometimes Just Stops Blinking

Please Login to Remove!

There seems to be no particular scenario. Now using the latest Telestra handset software, but saw it using the Cingular specific software as well. Navigating to options, and toggling the service indicator preference gets it blinking again, as does turning the radio on and off. In all cases, signal strength is good, and "EDGE" displays. I'm inclined to believe it's a bug. Anyone else see this happen? Thanks!

Happens to me too. I was wondering the same thing. Just got mine 2 days ago and am looking for answers on this.

I just turned it off. It is annoying anyway.

Options
Screen/Keyboard
Coverage Indicator - OFF
(you already knew that I see)

It's one of the features I like best. At a glance I can tell if I'm getting or not getting service, and at work, inside the building, I like to know that. But, that's why they provide the option. At least in your case, I'll bet it doesn't intermittently start blinking for no reason.

Two very good points.

If the service light stops blinking, turn off the wireless and immediately reconnect. The service light is an indicator that your cell service either is or is not receiving a signal. My mobile carrier does this if I don't reverify my address every couple of days or so. Try this - it's an inconvenience but it works well.

I notice that mine stops blinking if I use the OZ messenger. When Im done using OZ my status light no longer blinks, although I still have service.

I turn the wireless off and then on and it blinks again.

I also noticed that if i dont manually do anything but a call or email comes through it begins to blink on its own.

wes000 sort of beat me to the punch, but I was going to suggest that those of you who are having this problem start comparing what applications you have running, especially instant messengers. Any app can have access to the LED and can interfere with the service blink.

No IM or other apps here. For the most part, it appears random, although I believe that more than once, it stopped blinking coincident with reading an e-mail message with a large attachment (although I did not view/open the attachment).
