even if i have my backlight brightness set at 100, it is still not at its brightest. when i click the power button, it gets brighter than what i have the brightness set at. is this normal? i have the automatic back light turned off.

Yes this is normal. When you press the power button the screen brightness bumps up to 106 for a short period of time. Maintaining that level would drain the battery to quickly.
