Unhappy Why I am returning the 7100T unit.

This isn't a pissing contest, but just a note about why the 7100T doesn't work for *me*, and *only* my needs.

1. The push e-mail is great, but after a week I got tired of deleting every e-mail twice. (or reading them twice for that matter) I get roughly 250 messages a day. BES is not possible or relevant for my company. True IMAP mailbox synchronization is what I need, not IMAP duplications

2. Headset dialing. I knew it going in, but I didn't realize just how much I'd gotten used to voice dialing. I really miss it in the car, and I feel much less safe.

3. Voice recorder. My Nokia had voice recording, and it's quite handy. Very useful when you are driving and someone wants to rattle off phone numbers or addresses to you. I've had to pull off the road to write stuff down several times this week, and that's less useful than single-click to record.

4. Lousy GSM receiver/antenna/whatever. It has no less than 2 bars less everywhere than my Nokia phone did. Putting my SIM back in my Nokia reminded me what call clarity was.

5. BOS v4.0 fixed most of my phone/usability issues, but Internet access speed went from bad to worse. Putting up plain text files on a well connected Internet site takes 30-45 seconds.

6. Bluetooth Internet Access for my laptop. Yes, the Treo costs more. But then so does buying a PCMCIA GPRS card and another data plan for it.

These are kindof in order, but even #6 has strength to me. It's sad, because I really did like the device, and I really did like the scroll wheel. But there is just too much to overcome for this phone to work out well for me. YMMVW

It sounds like you may be leaning towards the Treo. Just keep in mind that they are in the final beta stages of BlackBerry Connect with it, so if you get a 650, you should have an upgrade path to BlackBerry connectivity. If nothing else, you can use ChatterMail. Some of my coworkers who have the Treo (prior to us getting a BES) really enjoy the push-like email.

It sounds like he does not want push email and would prefer an IMAP connection where he initiates the downloads.

ahh, shows how much i actually read.. heh. its sounds like he simply wants an OTA state synchronization, in addition to the mail synch. BES does offer this, but as he said, its not an option for his company. oh well.
