I swear I searched before posting! This is probably a case of me poking around where I shouldn't be, but now I'm just plain curious...I was looking around the "advanced backup and restore" feature of my desktop manager last night, and noticed a "purged messages" database on my device, with roughly a zillion (give or take a few thousand, of course) records in it. (The "zillion" probably correlates to the number of emails that have gone through this puppy since I got it about a month ago, but I could totally be mistaken!)

Okay, so when I go ahead and delete messages from the handheld, they're deleted on the BWC and my device, and I do a "purge." They're not saved, they're not accessible from any of the "folders," they aren't on the BWC anymore, etc. What the heck is this database? Is it going to keep growing and gradually eat up memory? Or, is it going to clear itself when I hit my magic 15 day "auto age" number? Or, am I being paranoid and should just stop looking at databases I don't understand? (I can't help it...I'm a nerd. If I could take the darn thing apart and look at all the pieces, I would!)

the database is internal to the device and is part of what makes your blackberry function properly. it either has a variable or set database size and record count (not really sure). not really sure much else outside of that... perhaps some developers would be able to shed some light.

I'm not positive, but it is either a "trash can" or a record of item ID's that have been deleted.

Ok, I admit I'm curious too...How do you delele these "purged messages" and do they really eat up that much space?

you can delete them the same way you do anything else. backup and restore. advanced. highlight. delete/clear/remove (whatever it says).

Can I add an additional question? I have a similar problem.

I religiously backed up and deleted the old backup files.

I now want to recover some of my purged messages and PINs.

The advanced backup feature on the desktop says that there is a database of 500 purged messages, which can be restored onto the handheld... but even when I do that, I can't access them.

Is there anyway to recover purged messages either on the handheld or via the desktop?
