Couple of questions-

I have never upgraded the OS before so I have a couple of questions;

-when you do after it has loaded is it ready to go or does it delete everything on the handheld like contacts, profiles, OTA installed apps etc?

-When it is finished installing do you need to complete an Enterprise Activation? If yes, and the handheld still has all of its data still on it will it duplicate contacts and calendar info?

Thanks for the help!

As I recall from upgrading my OS is that I did need to complete the Enterprise Activation just by plugging into my work computer, but I don't recall having to do anything else. Also, remember that when in doubt, reboot (pull the battery and re-insert after a few seconds). Sometimes this helps, though I'm pretty sure that changing OS will automatically restart the BB.

I had the same problem. With the .72 release from Cingular, I can go for several days. With the .90 release, I can barely last 1 day.

T-Mobile couldn't fix it, and neither could RIM. I had to revert to the T-Mobile default O.S 4.2.1.74. A shame really! I wanted to get my sound to play through my Bluetooth headset using TeleNav, and that only work with the Rogers O.S...

Had the same problem with mine. The problem is with the T-Mobile Zen Theme, try using another theme that is made by RIM and open the MyFaves icon, everything should match.

can i ask a dumb question? i've wondered when my 8800 might change display from Cingular to AT&T instead. from this earlier thread below, i thought this might happen automatically, without my having to do anything (which is good since i'm a novice at the tech stuff). should (at least the rebranding) change happen without having to go get this new operating system? thx

Default Does it fix the 8830 Outlook Calendar sync problems?

I haven't checked the two related threads on the problem with duplicate calendar entries from Outlook to BB and then changes on BB not being recognized to sync back to Outlook but I think those threads have been pretty stagnant.

Anyone know if this release is relevant to that problem?

Does this update have the A2DP bluetooth profile like the 8300?
I thought I read somewhere that 4.2 was supposed to have this.
Thanks

Was my question a dumb one or is it that hard to answer. I feel like I am being ignored?
Thanks, I guess

A2DP is not part of this OS. The only OS with A2DP is 4.2.2 on the Curve (and 8830 I think)

well, i chickened out on this OS, called cingular support, and got tech help at my shop to upgrade to v4.2.1.79 from the att bberrry downloads cite. i was hoping not only that this might give me a new at&t icon (which it did), but also that it might make bluetooth work a little more automatically (which it did not). for a new speakerphone setup (through car stereo), the bluetooth still seems a little unstable and requires me to connect manually through Manage Connections each time i plug 8800 in a car mount. am getting a little off topic, but i guess i'm going to call alpine tomorrow and see if they think i should have to spend so much time establishing blue tooth connection every time i put the handheld back in car. perhaps upgrading OS wasn't relevant to this, and perhaps alpine will tell me i need to ask sbc/att and/or research in motion about this.

sorry for getting off the topic but if anyone reads this and has top of head thoughts/reactions, i would gratefully receive

[off the os topic (and i posted in the other also), but since i raised the bluetooth issue here too, here was the solution... regards, bt]

well, a much smarter (than me) friend helped me solve bluetooth problem. he had me check settings more carefully. under Manage Connections / Bluetooth Options / Alpine KCA-100BT / Bluetooth Options, Device Name, BlackBerry 8800, i changed "Discoverable" from "No" to "Yes" instead. that did not resolve my issues. then under Manage Connections / Bluetooth Options / Paired Devices: Alpine KCA-100BT / Device Properties, i changed "Trusted" from "No" to "Yes" instead. either that second change, or perhaps first combined with second, solved my problem. now every time i get in the car, put my 8800 in cradle, and start the car, within about one second (automatically!) i get a popup message advising "Bluetooth connection established" and if i receive or initiate a phone call on my 8800, the alpine head unit displays INTERRUPT, the radio or disc automatically silences, and my phone call is nicely audible through the car's stereo speakers. hooray!

Default New to the forums

I would like to say thank you to all of you that help with upgrades and problems we may have with our BB's. That means whether you hit me in the head with a bat for being slow or you are kind with your response. I am a tech but not on these devices and it is reassuring to have somewhere to go for answers.

Default new OS

Does the new OS add spell chek? Does it add the file loader program like the 8300 has currently?

Default Does the update to OS 4.2 remove all application installed?

Download the OS here

To install this update:
1. Download and install the latest version of Desktop Manager
2. Donwload this OS and install it to the PC.
3. Delete the vendor.xml file located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader (this step is necessary any time an OS is installed from a different carrier than what is branded on the BB.)
4. Plug in BB and open Desktop Manager. You should be prompted to upgrade.
I am going to download the software but really don't want to have to reinstall all the software that I have already installed on the device (8800). I have read through the postings and see a number of problems with installation but none that concern me. I also sync up with BES, will the data be erased on device and have to resync all the info from the server?

Thanks in advance

Ps. If this has been answered already somewhere within the postings I have missed it.

All software will be backed up and reinstalled. However, if anything goes wrong and you have to start the installation over again after the OS has been wiped off the device you won't get your 3rd party apps back (you'll still have your data backup, though.) I recommend following this procedure to backup your 3rd party apps. That way it's easy to reload them all again if anything goes wrong.

http://www.blackberryforums.com/rim-...arty-apps.html

You will lose the sync with your BES. If you have an online connection to your email server and Desktop Manager picks it up then activation will start automatically after the upgrade process (give it a couple minutes after all is complete and it should start.)

if you don't have a connection then you'll need to get an activation password from your IT dept.
