The default theme is horrid. Mostly black and white, little icons crowded together, just the time, EDGE and battery at the top. Pulled battery but no change. I'm gone for a while to figure this out.

You shouldn't have to for TMo users but have you tried deleting the vendor.xml file? It's not unheard of to have an error in that preventing it from loading the OS.

1. Install Desktop Manager 4.2 SP2 to the PC.
2. Download and install the OS to the PC (BB not plugged in during this)
3. Delete vendor.xml located in c:\prorgram files\common files\research in motion\apploader
4. Plug in BB and run Desktop Manager. You should be prompted to upgrade.

These instructions are posted in every OS sticky thread in all the forums. Removing the vendor.xml file is usually for loading OS's from other carriers to your BB. This sounds like a vendor.xml file problem.

...all the more reason to believe this release from TMo is nothing new. It's the same as every other 4.2.1.91, to the extent that they didn't even change the vendor.xml file.

Do I have to install DM 4.2 SP2?

What about the 4.2.1.8 which is off the T-Mo website?

I would update the DM to the latest released by RIM. I would update to the 4.2.1.101 that was just released by Proximus, too, but that is up to you guys.

Just try deleting the vendor.xml file and see what happens.

Thanks for the heads up on the new DM version. I didn't even see that. I also upgraded to .101 OS and it seems to be fine.

There are a few things I like in this release but the OS is slower, I don't like the secondary menu screen (I'd rather have the pop up window) and the icons on the zen theme are crammed in close..

Things I like... You can add a image to people in address book, it automatically opens with bookmarks expanded (last viewed state)

So, TMobile in their "rush" (ha ha ha) to get this (outdated) OS out to everyone didn't get the vendor.xml file right for their release. This is going to be fun for them in terms of support calls.

This is why I ALWAYS suggest deleting the vendor.xml file no matter what. It saves many headaches.

When I tried this upgrade with deleting the file, the application loader found nothing new to upload. Once I deleted the file it all worked just like it is supposed to.

It is slower, as Lunk says. And I liked the way the Today and Zen themes worked before. But I turned off dial from home screen (or whatever that is) and the app shortcuts work fine.

But the BBF wap site is a little boogered up. The quote, edit, subscribe, next page, etc links are off to the side and not neatly in place like before. I've played with fonts but so far haven't fixed it. This is what is bugging me! UPDATE: Setting my WiStyle from default to Series60 and back to Default shook something loose and wap BBF displays as before. I'm happy.

I'm going to play for a fews days. It's different but too early for me to make a decision on staying with it or doing something else.

Thanks for the update Aiharkness...this is interesting. I like the idea of having an official TM OS on my BB (for obvious support reasons) yet I can't see downgrading at this point. But keep us updated if you will...

I believe that you can "unlock" other vendors' themes from most any 4.x version of the OS. Try this thread for downloads and instructions.
