Default Timezone Change / Network Time Update

Please Login to Remove!

I have noticed that when I change timezones, the time on my BB (7250/Verizon) doesn't update automatically. I have to go in through the options and manually make the change. Is there any way to make this automatic? I change timezones frequently and would like to have the BB update itself off the Verizon network when I do.

Please advise.

Question I was wondering the same thing...

I picked up a new Verizon 7250 Blackberry on Saturday. In the Date/Time settings, I enabled the "Auto Time Set", then hit the trackwheel menu and selected "Request Network Time", then saved the setting. Voila... Time upated immediately.

I've noticed, however, that the time display on the Blackberry's home screen is not keeping accurate pace with the official atomic clock time sources, such as WWV, the U.S. Naval Observatory Clock in Washington, D.C., or GPS time signals.

My other Verizon cellphones do accurately keep pace with the various official times sources. Accurate time synchronization is a necessary component of a CDMA system like Verizon's.

So I, too, was wondering about this issue. Anybody else know anything about this?

Yes, but the original poster was wanting to know if the time zone (not just the time) could be updated automatically. Another thread here implies that this is not an option.

Question

The automatic network time feature might be disabled because the Blackberry also contains a calendar full of entries containing various start/end times, and changing time zones automatically might cause confusion with some users.

Just a hunch...

I think you are right about this based on what I've read in other posts. I believe that the BB puts managing the time/timezone on your handheld in your control as changing these adds a layer of complexity to managing appts/meetings via the calendar function. I guess I'm used to the "old days" when I the plane I was on landed, I turned my "dumb" phone on, and the time updated for me.

Lightbulb I'd love to see...

Perhaps RIM can implement a new feature on future O.S. releases:

Dual Time Display!

Maybe the folks behind the BB applications (BBlight, BBtoday, BBreply, BBweather, etc.) can develop such a feature.

That's an awesome concept, actually! Not sure what the design specifics would be, but it would be nice.

I asked our BB contact at Nextel. he mentioned the same thing about the time change messing with your appointments.
