The detailed tags were removed for various reasons, but posting WAP will still note your wireless post, as you mentioned. On your BB in the WAP preferences > Wireless Device, you can set and name your device, i.e., "8310, AT&T, OS 4.2.1" or whatever you like.
But, for the time being at least, the detailed tag has been disabled.

for me no wirelessly posted tag shows up when I replies using my BB, I access BlackBerryForums.com : Your Number One BlackBerry Community from the BB, do I need to access using a different URL or edit some settings for the tag to show up?

And on the wap site, then edit your wap preferences > wireless device and enter your device model there.
