Default Forum Version & Wireless Posting - 09-23-2005, 12:50 PM

I notice that we're using vBulletin for the web portion of our forum and WiForums for the wireless portion. Why do we use WiForums for wireless instead of the vBulletin option? Is that why we have some licensing limitations on wireless posting?

vBulletin doesn't have a WAP version built in as an option. WiForums is an add-on product that queries the database and presents the data back to the user in WML format. The version of WiForums that was purchased, which was the 2nd to highest level, does not allow posting of new topics, but you can reply to topics.

Thanks Jibi. I thought I had seen that TreoCentral's WAP version was vBulletin, but I may have been wrong. Their WAP version is a bit more flexible than ours so they must be using a different plugin. Have a good day!

They use a vBulletin style/theme that has been created to remove all of visual aspects of the forum. Its not a true WAP/WML conversion, and there are actually a lot of things not correctly implemented within the style (I use the same one, although they may have done some extra things as the copyright information for the style was removed). They most likely have a script that has various browser agents implemented (as do I on my website) that detects the browser (thus the handheld) and forces the handheld to use the stripped down style.

hope that makes sense. the WAP/WML is more effecient and does not take up as much resources, thus why its a commercial product.
