What this means for helpful users:
We are implementing a rewards systems using our very own BlackBerryAPPS.com App store. For every 100 Thanked posts you will receive $10 credit @ the appstore. Dont know If I like that or not.
People will start to put a signature in their posts like "please say thank you blabla", Some even will try to earn thank you's instead of trying to help.

Not, that I think this is useless, but, it might have not only positive effects.

A Thank You system such as this is simply too wide open for abuse.
I doubt it will have the intended results and we'll eventually see too many users either trying to game the system and/or soliciting for "Thanks".

I'm sad to see this implemented. There's no need for such a system here, and it's only going to cause problems in the long run.

I don't really have any long term experience on a forum that does this. I've seen it, but this is the only forum I spend time on. I'm anxious to see how it works. Nothing is perfect and there's bound to be some abuse, but that's life. I wonder if there won't be some self correcting as abusers become apparent. I'm optimistic.

Thank you for that. If it does get abused or there are issues with it.. it will get removed. It's as simple as that

Doesn't seem logical that a person would be desperate enough to try to earn a thank you without offering some sort of help and it is equally illogical to thank someone for nothing. This feature will allow users to see the most helpful people in the forum and thus find better solutions. Good idea.

This is the internet... an logic doesn't always prevail.
I've already seen several users here with high "Thanks" counts and these members offer little to no real solutions or help at all. The primary reason being is that many new users don't realize that they are being provided with bad or incorrect advice. There's nothing to stop someone from being Thanked for providing misinformation.

Now, you have a handful of members who appear to be knowledgeable because of the "Thanks" they have received and their responses might be regarded as more valuable than another member's response with a lower Thanks count.

It's good that you're optimistic about the new system, but in my experience these systems never work as intended.

Yep, I don't disagree there.

However, you know this Forum better than most others: Those who abuse and/or pass along misinformation will be shot down in that thread pretty quickly. At least that is my experience with those type of posters.

Ok, I guess I thought it would be a good idea to put in a tag line on the thanks button and I never thought anyone would fish for votes. As my line indicated xxx8220;If someone helps, click the Thanks button.!!xxx8221; This can be useful in simply getting some idea if your suggestions are indeed helping. If someone desperately needs the $10 for the app store then they can have at it. I would still think the Thanks button is a good idea without the prize. Also I have a bit of faith in the Admins and their ability to xxx8220;filterxxx8221; the real helpers from the number loaders. I think most of us here know who offers useful suggestions and who just builds posts. We all sometimes respond with simple quick two word replies but the majority of the OPxxx8217;s do offer detailed help. If one of the Admins thinks the tag line is wrong let me know ( PM ) and I will certainly delete it.

Tsac, there's nothing wrong at all about your sig line. Leave it. It's all to encourage helping others, and you're good at it. The thanks button will encourage that. Have at it.
