Default For the moderators: Image Verification on searches

Please Login to Remove!

I would like to know why the Image Verification when performing a search is necessary?

I find this to be a very annoying feature. Many answers on this forum encourage posters to search prior to posting a question. The image verification discourages searches because of unneccesary typing and often unclear images. It's easier just to post a question that may have already been posted and has responses.

I might suggest disabling this feature for registered users and maintaining this for individuals who wish to search as unregistered visitors to the site.

Thanks for listening.

Maybe I am missing something, but I don't have to verify an image when I search.

Me either.... Someone mentioned a while back about one of the images giving a security pop-up warning in Vista I think.... Guess responded and said it was one of the ad banners...

Is this what you are talking about?

That's it, Lunk, I don't get the image either, I guess because I am either firefox or or have my pop ups turned off.

I have never had an image verification for searches. I do know that crackberry.com has image verification and it is annoying as h***. Maybe the OP is talking about seeing it on crackberry.com and got the sites confused???

If you are a registered user and logged in the image verification is not there (only visible to guest's). This applies both to blackberryforums and crackberry.

Yeah, I do see now that there is an image verification for search if you are not logged in. I am not sure what the point of this is. If someone is going to take the time to make a script to search the forums enough to bog down the servers, they are obviously going to take the time to create an account so they don't need to deal with the image verification. It only serves to make it harder for people who aren't registered to search.

Anyway, here is a screen shot of the image verification.

So take the 5 minutes and register. It's not that hard.
Sorry - this doesn't seem like a hardship.
