Default Wiki Extension of BBF Community...? - 05-29-2005, 11:09 AM

This weekend, I found myself pretty caught up in the entire Star Wars universe, watching Episodes I through VI in order (I know, such a great way to spend a rather dismal Memorial Day weekend). I've only ever considered myself a novel fan of Star Wars, enjoying the movies as a child and catching Episodes I and II on DVD (or download prior to DVD release). I purchased the Trilogy on DVD when it was released (and redone.. grr!) a few months back.

But anyhow, so a friend and I were discussing Sifo-Dyas this morning and I thought his name had been mentioned in Episode III (although now I cannot find where, I *swear* it was mentioned). Since I was on the warpath to find the correlation of where I heard the name to my present argument, I got to searching on Google. Anyhow, now I find myself sidetracked on Wikipedia reading about the history of the Star Wars Universe and wanting to find downloadable eBooks of the Expanded Universe novel collection (speaking of, if anyone can help with this request, I'd be much obliged).

Okay, that brings me to my point - a Wiki for BlackBerryForums.com. I think it could be a natural extension for the site, adding a higher level of linking for questions and knowledge, obviously with some sort of moderated content addition. Okay, just my rambling suggestions...

*Edit: Nevermind about the ebooks. I just found about a hundred or so in alt.binaries.ebooks.

I love Wikipedia, it's my favourite online encyclopedia and remarkably accurate considering the freedom of editing that exists. Errors and vandalism gets removed/corrected very quickly. I have contributed over 100 edits ot Wikipedia.

It depends on whether there's enough people willing to maintain a BlackBerry wiki -- say, "http://wiki.blackberryclub.com". The wiki software is pretty easy to install, and given a sufficient audience, would be worthwhile. But it definitely needs a critical mass of willing article-creators and editors.

Thanks,

It'd give you a nice place to display the FAQ writings and whatnot. But I think there would be a lot of us who would be willing to write articles (just make sure there are well-versed editors who have a place in the moderation process).

You know, I wish Wikipedia existed when I was younger. Its a great alternative to Britannica and other pay-for encyclopedias or the dusted old traditional hardbacks that we used in libraries (although we could never take them home - *sigh*). Damn, I can remember that it was considered a symbol of social status to have a set of encyclopedias in the early 80s (heck, I'm sure moreso years prior to my childhood).

BTW, Wikipedia has BBF listed in its links section for their BlackBerry entry. Kind of neat.
