So how does this work? Are they setting the primary proxy address in Active Directory to whatever you request, or are there limitations on the From: address you can use? So may people have my yahoo address that I'd hate to change it, but if I can use that address, it would be a lot more attractive...

To put it another way, can *any* email address be used? Can I forward yahoo over to that and use it as my From: address?

Thank you for your response, Dave. A couple other questions...
1) there seems to be no SSL certificate on the sign up page ( http://www.exchangemymail.com/order/order.aspx). I am a bit hesitant to put those numbers in. Is there an alternate, secure site?
2) on the sign up page, there seems to be no option that is appropriate for someone like myself who wants to use an existing email address (such as a yahoo account). Which option should be selected.
3) in what part of the country are the servers physically located?
Thanks,
Chris

Chris - we do have SSL, the order page was just updated, sorry about that.
you can also just change the http - to https, and it will work..
https://www.exchangemymail.com/order/order.aspx
if you are using yahoo, you can use one of our goemm.com accounts, and request to have your reply to address changes to your yahoo address..
Our servers are located in a tier 1 datacenter on Long Island New York.

Status report: My experience with Exchange My Mail.
So, I'm already spending a fortune this device and thought I'd go ahead and try out the hosted Exchange and BES services, mainly because of this site. I wanted to share my experiences.
Nutshell: Would I recommend this company? Absolutely.
I added a standard 100MB account and BES services today. The links and documentation were good, and I was able to get my own account going within 3 or 4 minutes. I wanted some customization done as regards which attributes were "public" to the peeps on that Exchange server. A note to the support link got me a practically instantaneous response from the famous Dave who took are of changing my display name and designating a new From: address.
Next came BES. Again, the instructions were very clear and the activation went cleanly except for one glitch. I don't know if it is a 7100i issue or what, but there was a glitch where BES went live and sychronized everything *except* my Inbox. After a couple of intuitive troubleshooting steps, Dave asked if it was OK if he called me. He called within 5 minutes and had a RIM support technician conferenced in on the call. The problem was solved in less than 2 minutes. The issue seemed to be a known issue with RIM/BB, not with a problem with the provision of the account by Exchange My Mail.
I have to say, as someone in the IT industry who has managed help desk operations, I was very impressed with how thorough and responsive they have been so far. As someone who has been burned out on support operations... be careful Dave!
I have no complaints so far, although I can see disk space becoming an issue. I do wish the default disk space was 200MB (or at least mine - hint! hint!) with cheaper options for upgrades. Darned that Yahoo and Google for getting us used to no quotas... Hope this helps.

Hello,
I was wondering how you setup the mail accounts when bringing over a private domain name. Do you allow/facilitate the setup of catchalls per domain? If not, how many aliases do you allow per mailbox?
Thanks!

MS exchange doesn;t do catchalls, but you can setup a bunch of aliases.. We have no set policy on how many, but a reasonable amount should be no problem.

Yeah I read around and saw the only way to set them up was with a vb script (which only works for one domain) or via a third party software from TurboGeeks.
Thanks for the reply! I don't have that many aliases

Do I need to have a Windows PC to use this service? I'm a Mac user and, while I have access to a PC with Outlook 2002, I'd prefer not to.

I'm a bit confused about this post. I'm very familiar with vBulletin and how it works. I was merely stating he had a PM.

I think I posted in another forum about ExchangeMyMail but felt I needed to add to this one as well. Dave and everyone at ExchangeMyMail have been AWESOME!!
The service I get from them is incredible and blows me away sometimes. Instant responses and fixes to any questions or problems I am having. I'm using the Exchange and BlackBerry hosting. Setup was easy and when I ran into a couple of problems (on my end), Dave responded immediately and helped me out. Oh, did I mention that was late on a Sunday night? lol... great service!

Add me to the list of new users of this fine service. As others have stated, Dave's support is excellent. During my initial setup he was right there with me, emails were answered promptly, and the setup (after working through MX issues on my end) was flawless.
Great service and glad I found it!

More praise for the guys at Exchange My Mail.
Frustrated with Cingular's price gouging for the use of third party applications I called in and had them remove the Wireless Internet Express Pay Per Use line from my account.
I then immediately called Exchange My Mail and signed up. Within 30 minutes I was up and running. Now I'm using the MDS proxy to access third party apps not to mention taking advantage of wireless synchronization and all the other goodies. Dave and Steve were nice enough to walk me through the entire process.
They know what customer service is all about.
Thanks again guys.

I am just curious. How much faster is the web browsing than the normal 7100i would offer without this BES. Your reviews sound awesome, and my only real complaint I have is the speed of my browser....

All the comments sound great and I am thinking of signing up as well. Cingular is getting on my nerves. I do have a question, I searched but found no answer. Will I be able to drop the Unlimited Data Plan that is currently on my BB7290?

Rick,
From someone who just signed up with Exchange My Mail and is also a Cingular user, the answer to your question is no. You'll still need your Cingular Blackberry plan. Exchange My Mail doesn't take the place of your data plan. It's like an add-on to it.

What exactly would be my advantage? I've read the posts, but not all of them have all the info. I run a one man small business, but my clients email me and with Cingular they do not always come through real time.
If I may ask you, what exactly did you sign up for and are you happy so far?

Here's their page on the service for the Blackberry.
http://www.exchangemymail.com/blackberryfeatures.html
I'm sure Dave will chime in here and answer your question. I called their number and spoke to him live. He answered all my questions and concerns.
I've only been using the service for two days but already I see the following benefits:
1. The use of the MDS proxy.
2. Faster internet browsing.
3. The ability to use third party applications which rely on data.
4. Wireless synchroniztion of calendar, contacts, tasks and notes.
5. Outlook web access (access your Outlook from any computer anywhere.)
6. Ability to use folders within Outlook on your Blackberry.
7. Free upgrade to Outlook 2003.
8. Free e-mail account.
9. No need for desktop redirector
10. Triple DES encryption technology.
11. Ability to specify "from" e-mail address on outgoing messages.
12. Real live technical support only a phone call or e-mail away.
13. Immediate e-mail delivery.
I feel I was previously only using the Blackberry to 75% of it's potential. Like something was missing. Now with the service it's being used the way it was designed to be used.

I had a question about this service. The company I work for has an exchange server but not a BES server. I understand that I can have my business email forwarded to the EMM server and have the reply appear to still come from the business email address. Is it possible to integrate a personal POP3 email account as well? Would it require a second mailbox or can the pop3 account be setup with its own from and reply to address like the forwarded exchange account?

DD# - Yes, you can integrate a pop mail account into your outlook profile, but it would use the same reply to address as the main. If you require a seperate reply to address for that pop account, then yes, you would need a second mailbox.

Figured I'd chime in as another satisfied customer. David and the crew at EMM have been more than patient with me through the entire sign-up and setup process. I have BES now integrated with my Outlook 2003 at work using XP and RPC. It works flawlessly!
I'm going to start tinkering with Entourage at home and see if I can make it work there as well.
Thanks to David and the crew at EMM!
Currently without 'Berry. Enjoying my Nokia N73.

Great service!! -
02-08-2006, 06:33 PM
Here's another endorsement for exchangemymail!
I purchased my 7250 about two months ago and was using it for everything EXCEPT email [probably the only person in history to buy a BB and not use it immediately for email]. I was planning on adding BES service, but I was dreading the setup since I am not really technologically advanced and I don't have an IT department.
After tiring of plugging in every day to synch with Outlook, I decided to go with BES for its wireless synch and email capability. Based on the positive endorsements on this site, I decided to give exchangemymail a try. I finally decided to do it last Saturday and could not be happier with my decision.
After upgrading to Outlook 2003, I called exchangemymail to transfer my email hosting and to set up the BB. It took just a few minutes to set everything up and transfer my existing Outlook information. I had one glitch importing all of my old stored emails, but it was my fault. I called Dave back, and he walked me though the fix in about five minutes. After that, the BB was activated, and everything worked perfect. It was completely painless!
Once it was setup, I wanted to tweak a few settings in the way it handles my email. Since I acquired all of my BB knowledge on these forums, I turned here for answers to these issues. A few searches on this site yielded all of the answers I needed, without the need to start any new threads. Thanks to everyone for your help!!!
I love my new service, and I am 100% happy I used exchangemymail for exchange hosting and BES. Thanks again to Dave at exchangemymail, and I recommend their service without any reservations.
PS - This is the first time I have publicly recommended any product or company, but it's that good!

Can I use this for just the 3rd party WAP access and not email/contact/calendar? I am ok with my BIS email setup, in fact I don't want to do the full sync process as I don't have my outlook running 24/7 so what's the point. But I am getting tired of fighting Cingular for 3rd party WAP access to check the weather/news.

You don't have to have Outlook running at all to take advantage of this service. This isn't like the desktop re-director. That's the beauty of it. All the information is stored in their server. When you do have Outlook opened it syncs with their servers to update the information/content on your Blackberry.

But I am struggling with adding a $20 amount to an already $85 bill each month when all I want is access to 3rd party apps. I could care less about syncing my BB with anything, I just don't use it that way. Yes, that might be cool, but not something I care about.
My other choice would be to go to T-Mobile or Verizon for $50-60 month and dump Cingular all together.

I struggled with the same thing but in then end it's worth it.
For me Cingular's coverage is so much better than T-Mobile's. I'm not sure I'd switch to T-Mobile if it were free. Verizon isn't an option either since I need to be on GSM.
It's just a part of being with Cingular I guess.
You could always try for one of Cingular's lower priced Media Net, Media Basic or Media Works plans and see if they'd let you add that on to your plan. I'm not sure they'll let you add one of these plans onto a Blackberry plan but they'd give you access to the wap APN.

I thought I could add the $10 media net plans myself online but it failed on the last step. I might try again after next month's bill gets here and I have them remove the charges again
We are in the process of looking for a new home, so I hate to switch providers until I know where I settle. I also have to wait until after I get all my credits. I have a coworker who swears by T-Mobile, not at them, but we plan to move to a more remote area, so coverage could be a big issue.

Someone else on the boards just mentioned they called into customer service and tried to have them add a Media Net plan on top of their Blackberry plan but they system wouldn't let them do it. It was telling them a data plan was already added and they couldn't have two data plans at once.

Okay, I am definitely interested in using exchange my mail, but had a few questions.
1) When it comes to wireless syncing, is it possible to sync my BB to two computers? My desktop and my laptop? If so, that would be amazing, that way I have consistent information on both my computers at all times.
2) I have several email accounts I would need my BB to access, between the data plan at cingular, and the exchange my mail would I be able to access these: one gmail account, and three personal domain email addresses? Do I need to know any details about being to access all four email accounts? Would I be able to reply to the emails with their respective address? Or will I have to use one alias to answer all four?
Thank you so much for these answers.
Ironically I am saving up so I can get my 8700c through Cingular, so I don't have it yet. But I do have the plan, the BES, and the case all picked out already. Ha.

I am new to this, so I am going to ask a dumb question. Where and how do I set up an alias?
By the way I subscribed to the Exchangemymail service Saturday and couldn't get the BES activated on my 8700. I emailed tech support and within a few minutes the problem was resolved by Dave. Thank you for the support and response.

I signed up yesterday as well. I had previously been using a different company for my BES. I figure I may as well support a company that supports this site. Was up and running in a real short time.
Thanks!

Also, I don't use Outlook, I use Microsoft Entourage on a Mac laptop that is NOT always connected to the Internet (much less even turned on). Is this service worth it? I'd be willing to pay the monthly fee for the synching benefits of mail, tasks, calendar and address book entries.
Also, not to end up with a competitor, but is there a similar service out there individuals who receive multiple long/large emails with large file attachments?
