Your Exchange Server OUR BES! -
05-23-2007, 04:17 PM
That's right folks... Your Exchange Server - Our BES..
We are a short time away from launching our new service called SoloSync -
What does this mean?
Well in short, ...it means exactly that.
If you or your employer are currently using your own Exchange server and want to get on a BES while still remaining on your Existing IN HOUSE Exchange server, you need our new service.. Launching Shortly.
We are the only company right now with the ability to offer this unique service.
This is great for those of you have no desire to have a Hosted Exchange mailbox just to get on a BES. If you are already using Outlook, through an Exchange server we can sync you.
So basically, you will continue to use your existing IN HOUSE Exchange Server, and outsource the BES service to US.
What our service does:
Sync Email ( real time )
Contacts
Calendar
Web Browers using our BES
What our service doesn't do:
Folder Redirection
Sync Tasks
Sync Memo's.
We hope to launch this service publicly in the next 30 - 45 days as we are just completing final stages of testing.
If you are interested please signup for our email updates. No spam, no solicitations or anything like that. Just an update now and then with info regarding the public release, and maybe some discounts for the first bunch of users..
EDIT - We have sent out the first email to users on our email list. The service is in a "pre-launch" status, and we are waiving setup fees for users that signed up for our newsletter. If you have not yet signed up for our newsletter, please do so now.
Please signup for this exciting new service here:
Signup here >>>>
Leibdav1 is our first live customer on the service! - Congratulations on being the first of this unique service. We hope all goes well in this "pre-launch" status, and look forward to your review.
Please also note:
This is not an automatic setup.
This system is very complex, and requires manual configuration on our side. Please allow some time for us to contact you after you signup, as we need to manually create your account. You will get an email with some instructions, and details you must gather in order to finish the setup of your account.

Nice, that's exactly what I've been looking for & might make me move away from Nokia M4E. What sort of connection will you need into the exchange server?

The only requirement is that OWA is running and accessable from the internet.
You will obviously also need to know the login credentials..
That's it.. We do the rest from there..

What will the price of this be? Could we use this with a free exchange server like mail2web.com for a cheap BES solution?

Oh my god, this is wonderful! I can't wait for this to be released. I'm very excited! Hopefully it will come out sooner than later! I'm even willing to help with testing if that will get it to me sooner!

So far pricing has been set at $30.00 per month for single users, and $24.99 for 2 or more users so it's by no means cheap with no activation fee.
This service is more expensive than a regular hosted Exchange and BES service, as plans can be had for as little as $19.98 including a hosted exchange mailbox.
This application is directly marketed to users that already have an Exchange Server, and simply need to add a few users to a BES and cannot justify the additional costs of attempting to bring a BES server in house.
This isn't meant to be a cheap alternative to a hosted exchange / bes solution, but rather help users and organizations that want / need a bes solution that MUST remain on their own Exchange Server.
I hope that clears the air..

I believe that cost would be well worth it. There really are no other good alternatives out there.

Why do you need access to OWA? Evceryone can setup their bb to connect to OWA and install Desktop menager to synch...it is free...

This solution doesn;t require desktop manager.. The Blackberry will be running on a Blackberry Enterprise Server.
OWA login is used for synching email, contacts, calendar.
This is a full BES account with all features of a BES except for those already specified.
This is a true HOSTED BES solution.
Make sense?

OK. Well, where I work security policy does not allow OWA to be used. If we don't have wireless synch then then it is not vell worth to use that over BIS. New Bis will give you everything else as BES...attachments etc...
But neat idea. I beleive there is something simular here in Canada though.

I am awaiting verification on this, but I am going to say Yes. I will post for certain tomorrow whether MDS is enabled or not. I think it would be silly if it wasn't enabled.
From what I have been told so far everything is included except what was originally posted as not being available
What our service does:
Sync Email ( real time )
Contacts
Calendar
Web Browers using our BES
What our service doesn't do:
Folder Redirection
Sync Tasks
Sync Memo's.
My thinking is that "Web Browers using our BES" is MDS, but i will verify with the developers tomorrow and get back to you.
EDIT: Yes i have confirmed the service will include MDS service. The official name of the service is going to be called SoloSync.

I have it up and running and it's terrific! Well worth the cost. The push email is instant, and actually hits my BB before it hits my outlook. The contacts and calendar sync just like they normally would normally. The only drawback is that tasks and memos don't transfer over. No biggie, since I don't use those anyway. I love this service!

The developers are working on it, but it's not something i would count on. It's very difficult, and most likely would cause extreme latency issues.
I expect they will be working on it for a long time, unless RIM opens the doors on this technology, which i highly doubt will ever happen.
This is all custom coded software, and nothing in the world like it.

So basically with SoloSync I have all the email, calendar, contact functions of having an in-house BES without those other features (for now - hopefully)?

That's how it works for me. I'm able to do everything that I was previously able to do when I had EMM host my exchange and BES together. With SoloSync, I have all the functionality of email, without the folder redirection, I have all of the functionality of the calendar feature, as well as having my contacts wirelessly sync with my device from outlook.
With regards to your email, for me at least, the only folders that show up are deleted items, inbox and sent items. The sent items folder is only poppulated with the messages that you send from your device, not from all messages sent from account.
Hope this helps.

It may not be a major issue to me once i figure out the odds and ends of the BB, since I am new to the device, but if i were to not use solosync and use the full hosted exchange/BES that EMM offers, will i gain any major functionality with regards to folder redirection, etc. over using solosync?
thanks for your help. i am a bb newbie.

There is a significant difference between the SoloSync and having EMM host both your exchange server and your BES. I use the SoloSync because my office has an exchange server and we didn't want to purchase a BES just for me, so I signed up for the BES service. If you don't have an exchange server, then you would still need to get a hosted exchange service of some type. I strongly suggest that you go with EMM, their customer service is second to none. They respond to questions very quickly, they're kind, and their tech's really know their stuff.
With a hosted BES/exchange, your tasks and notes can be sync'd with your device, and you also have folder redirection, which shows all of your folders on your BB, versus only having your inbox, sent items and deleted items on your bb with SoloSync.
Let me know if there is anything else you want to know.

I appreciate the comments and help. I have purchased a subscription to SoloSync (yesterday) and I wanted to know more than I got from their website. We also have an exchange server and my parter is very wary about installing the BES Express I got for free just for me. We have a small organization and everyone else uses a Windows Mobile device. He didnt want to screw up the server and have problems and keeps telling me to just get a WM device. This is why I signed up for SoloSync and I am hoping that the folder re-direction and other stuff gets resolved sometime in the future. I am optimistic that it will be resolved.
My question from before was what am I *really* missing when talking about folder redirection and stuff like that. From what I understand, having them host my exchange would be great if I didnt have an exchange server already in place at work. But since we already have one, that's what SoloSync is for.
Thanks and I look forward to your next post!

What are you reallly missing? Well, the folder redirection is replaced with a simple mail sync. Folder redirection consists of having all of your folders show up on your bb and being able to take emails you get in your inbox and move them to other folders. The mail sync only allows your inbox and sent items and deleted items to show up, and you're limited to those. Other than that, there aren't too many differences.
The situation you have in your office is the same as mine. Everyone else has a WinMo device here, and I couldn't justify the expense of purchasing a server just for me. I think this solution will work, as long as we don't have too many more people who switch over to the bb.

Exchange 2007 is not supported yet. The engineers are still working on it, as MS has made a bunch of changes in how 2007 works.

essentially when it comes down to it, how badly do you need calendar and contact wireless synchronization? 30$/month worth?

Just saw this thread and I have to say it's about time! I can't believe no one has exploited this market niche until now. My company is in the same boat... we host/own our own Exchange server but have a mix of BB and WM clients. Obviously the WM clients are in full sync bliss. BB clients get the usual BIS through OWA access.
So for a lot of companies similar to mine, I'm sure hosted BES makes great sense. However, I have to say, I'm not enthused about the price. 30/mo is pretty steep for what I see as a a minimal upgrade from BIS. If it were more of a total BES solution (full sync, folders, etc.) then maybe. But until then, I think $10/mo is more like it.
Not to sidetrack or poopoo the thread but I'm currently researching a SyncML solution on Linux. I'm more than happy with the email portion of BIS. What I would like to eliminate is the need to hook up to a desktop in order to sync Contacts, Calendar, Tasks, and Memos. So I'm looking into running a SyncML server on a Linux box which syncs to the Exchange server. You can then use a SyncML client on the BB (there are several) in order to get your data. True, this part wouldn't be push, but on demand... but at least it would be wireless eliminating the desktop. I've almost got it going, just working out the Linux-Exchange sync part. If only the SyncML client on the BB could be automated or scheduled...
Anyway, bravo exchangemymail. I hope you get the total solution working soon and increase the value factor somewhat. Also, if it worked entirely over BIS that would be perfect. ;)

Am I the only one who thinks this is a rip?
You can get a FREE copy of BES which includes one user, and each additional user is only 80$ per additional user, ONE TIME FEE up to 15 users....

You're correct in quoting the original post, but how many employers will let you install a BES on their hardware willy-nilly for your own personal amusement/needs?

Ahhh I can see where people are coming from. I am a BES Admin for my company. I wasnt thinking for the individual user @ a company. Interesting... We'll see how it works, I know that our OWA is firewalled so you need to be VPN'd in.

I was hoping for this service as well!
But at $25 a month.... that is a little more than I was hoping to pay.
Either way it looks like a great concept, and I hope more companies offer this as you have set the bar pretty high already!

I'm curious too if the service will be offered again. I had some customers lined up ready to sign up for it, right before they yanked it. Hope that they fix the glitches and bring it back to life!!
