Available for sale is a BIG highvoltage Plate Transformer suitable for a BIG amplifier. This is a heavy duty built transformer wasprobably a step down unit from 4800 / 9600 V utility service. That makes it probably pre 1975 or there abouts. The winding ratio is 20:1 so at a 240 Vprimary, that yields a 4800 V secondary.It’s wound with #6 copper so the HV output current is conservatively 3.0A @ 4800 V. This transformer will makethe basis for a serious tube amplifier power supply. Output on large transformers like this cancommonly be adjusted by controlling the primary side with a heavy duty variac(see my other listings for a good candidate for this role). The transformer windings have been HiPottested for insulation integrity and checks out good. Consider that Peter Dahl Company (now Hammond Mfg. Co.) sellssimilar iron for $1200-1500. I’m usingone identical to this to power a single tube, grounded grid design using a5762B triode. Please see my otherlistings for tubes, amplifier parts, Variacs and modulation transformers.
This transformer weighs in at 176 lbs packed on a pallet (see photos) so shipping will have to be via motor freight or local pick-up. Freightquote.com is the best way to get an estimate. Pallet / crate is 18\"x18\"x22\" tall, 176 lbs. You can also save significant freight costs by having the shipment held at the receiving terminal vs. brought out to your house. Residential deliveries come at a premium unfortunately. I’m also willing to drive a reasonabledistance for gas money, contact me to work this out.
