Hi guys:

Mother in hospital so was trying to get phone to tether so I can get some internet access and work (hospital has their network locked down to http port 80 only). Followed different version of instructions around for dial strings and userid/pw. None worked.

I got close, but no cigar.

Using the desktop manager 5.01
Carrier ATT (originally Cingular service)
Have desktop manager open
Built the DUN connection without issue.
Modem(s) show in device manager properly
Modem responds to diagnotic commands (but some say "not supported")

When tring to make the actual connection, it gives:

"the ppp link control protocol was terminated"

Can't see to get past that.

I do not have a tethering plan from Cingular/ATT. I had the impression this wasn't a requirement for the manual setup, but maybe that's wrong.

Can anyone help me get it going? Or let me know it's not possible?

THanks,
Scott

I got it to work using the dial strings and advanced setting here:

www blackberryfaq.com/index.php/Using_BlackBerry_As_Modem

I think I used the cingular orange settings.

I downloaded TetherBerry it uses your data plan on your phone and does not charge tethering to your bill it works great. you can find it at BlackBerrycool

I second Tetherberry, very good, and I have seen it around half off lately.
