For anyone taking the training courses monday or friday, have you received any information about the course yet? All I have is the e-mail when I first registered for WES that says more details will come closer to WES. my course is 7 days away and I haven't heard anything yet. I just want to make sure I haven't missed anything.

This is gonna sound real noobish
But what on earth is this WES thing?
Id heard about it on the BB website when browsing for devices when making my choice
From what i can make out in this thread it is, or it involves some sort of training?
Cheers guys

WES is Wireless Enterprise Symposium. It is a 3 day conference put on by RIM for BB admins, CEOs and such to learn more about BB and all BB related vendors are in one place. There is also formal training that happens as well as hands on labs so people can play with BES without messing up their own installations.
It has some good evening events as well and the networking with other BB admins throughout the event has proven very invaluable to me. This will be 7th WES and it is a good event.

I am signed up for the course on Monday as well. I originally signed up for the level 1 course, but once they posted the syllabuses (syllabi?), I realized that I would probably be better served in the level 2 course. I have received confirmation that the change was made and thats it.

NBA Basketball. Orlando Magic vs Detroit Pistons. They are currently playing a best of seven playoff series. If Game six is necessary it will be in Orlando during WES.
I hate basketball, so I wont' be going. I'll be searching for somewhere, anywhere, that will be showing the NHL playoffs.

The Marriott has a pretty good Sports Bar "High Velocity" with quite a few screens.
"As one of the largest sports bars in Orlando, High Velocity is taking sports bars to a whole new level, featuring flat panel HDTVs and serving varieties of beer fresh from the tap, delicious appetizers, sliders, burgers, chicken wings and more. You can view NFL Sunday Ticket, NBA Basketball, NHL Hockey, Major League Baseball and special sporting events in a casual, contemporary setting."

Another n00d -
05-06-2008, 04:08 PM
Alright... Also a n00d BES Admin. Going to be there early Monday and leaving Friday night. Staying at the Marriott.
I might be the only BES admin going from my company. Still waiting to hear word back to see if someone else is going to be able to go.
Look forward to meeting up with some people. I'm not that big at socializing but want to get better at that. If I am the only one heading down, I will have to. Only way to have fun.
Don't be too harsh on us n00d/first timers.
Like knottyrope, I have no Blackberry but support the BES. Although, I was told if I come back from WES with a free Blackberry, the company would activate it. So that is my goal. Any help with this goal would be appreciated.
James.

I am in the same boat. Only been a BES admin for about 5 months. Looking forward to meeting people and having a good time. I am staying at the Caribe Royale. Not sure where that is but I was assured it was close and I could walk (I get no car). I leave Thursday night though. Is there something going on Friday or you guys just relaxing for a day?

smile and conversate anything and everything about BBs. there will be other WES noobs just like you there (i'm sure you'll be able to spot them too). my first WES in 2006 was awesome. i met soooo many BBAdmins in the bus to and from the parties, meeting at the tables during breakfast and lunchtime, basic networking at the vendor events/booths, etc. it's funny how I still communicate with those same folks (also ones I met at WES 2007) throughout the year to resolve BB issues that TSupport can't seem to grasp and whatever. so do your best to socialize. WES is definitely an awesome networking event.

We'll be right in the middle of the Confrence Finals during the week. I'm gunning for a Stars/Penguins final, although Detroit will be tough to beat in the West.
Maybe the Oilers will make the playoffs next year..........

I might have to bring the 8703 I won last year with and see if I can sell it to the highest bidder (Surprisingly I haven't even broken the seal). Hmm, can see the ad now: Mint condition 8703 BB.
Jhunt11, the trick is will the company pay for the service for the BB or is it out of your own pocket? If it's out of your own pocket you're probably better off just getting one where you are.

No.. Its a big enough company that they will front the bill for the service. My boss is having a hard time getting it approved by upper management for everyone on my team to have a BB. We have two floaters when we are on call. But if I were to get a freebie while at a conference, he said he would get it activated under the company plan.

Yes, the meetup spot is going to be at the Mobile User Management Lounge. It's directly across from the solutions showcase. We're doing the initial meetup from 6-8pm monday night, where the lounge has been secured exclusively for BBF members.
