Default Wiping a 8320 to get UMA working..

Please Login to Remove!

I have a question. If I wipe my device, and just reimport my contacts from my simcard, will that "resend" all my service books? I am still waiting for TMO to figure out why this 8320 or the replacement sent me will not connect. They said it could be a UNC error on their end, but I still say it's odd I am the only one experiencing it in m area. Anyone have any suggestions?

Your normal contacts aren't stored on your sim card (unless you actually put them on the sim card one by one.

I would do as you suggest though, and wipe the device and see if you can get UMA. I suggest wiping it, loading the two certificates from BlackberryHELP and then see if you can get connected to UMA.

Ok last time I wiped it, went to the help site, and all i could do was click "view" there was no install?

And the correct way to wipe this is to go to options/security/ correct?

If that's the case then the certificates are already there. UMA should work..

"should" being the key word here....

Last time t-mo had me wipe it, they had me back it up. Then wipe it, then restore it. So perhaps I should just wipe it, and not restore it? I do have my contacts on sim card because when I rebooted from that wipe last time, it asked if I wanted to import them. The data on my micro-sd is safe as well?

So, TMo had you do a full restore? If so, that could be why no UMA. Here's what you should do:

Backup your device.

Wipe the device (DO NOT RESTORE)

Try wifi and see if you can get UMA. You should be able to get UMA.

Then follow this procedure when restoring your data:

Device switch without losing H@H capability - BlackBerryFAQ

Ok that does note does suggest that it would only be a problem or issue if I was restoring from a different device. All I have ever had is a Curve. I will try this again when I get home from work! Note: UMA did not work on the other 8320 I had that they sent me as a replacement, and i had NOT restored that one. Just plugged in the SIM and Battery. Worth another shot while I am waiting for T-mo Engineering to call.

Well, if it doesn't work after simply inserting your sim card, then something else is wrong. Engineering might be the only solution.

ARGH. All I can say is I am more frustrated now than ever. I wiped both phones tonight and still nothing. Infact, I couldn't get on my cell tower either so my phone(s) were both SOS, and of course no UMA.

None of the certificates needed to be updated on either phone.

I think it's an engineering problem.
Two devices. Same issue (no UMA). And the last thread, well, I have no idea what is going on.

Ya, all I can say is that I am about as frustrated as it gets. I called t-mo again tonight, this time to see if there was a outage in my area, sure enough. Well that explains the SOS. It has been almost a week since I had UMA. I get a bar of service inside my house, so I depend on that darned uma! I love the rate plans with tmo, and it was great while it worked. But I have to say, I am about at my ends. Tmo's customer support has been as apologetic and understanding as it gets. I just wish I had the same strong signal I had with ATT. ATT just can't compete on the rate plans.

Anyways one more question regarding wiping a device:

So I wiped my old 8320 phone first: Are the certificated supposed to be wiped as well? Because I have never had to reinstall them from the blackberry help site.

The replacement 8320 they sent me I also tried. I wiped it as well.
That phone also did not need the certificates from the help site.

I get the same error in wi-fi diagnostics on both. I parked in front of a starbucks tonight with both phones and tried there. I also get the same error at home on my t-mo linksys router. Also tried my dlink router, and my linksys WRT-300N.

J0013.0 Each time. One other time I got W006.3.
Both on .180.

Any other suggestions while I wait for tmo?

Thanks for all the help!

A few more questions: I did not have the DST patch applied. Would this have screwed up my certificates? I know it will on some other secure networks, not sure about UMA...

And should I try deleting the certificates and then going to the help site to reinstall them? How would I do this?

Wirelessly posted (BB 8860: BlackBerry8320/4.2.2 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)

DST patch is included in all OS's 4.2.1 and above.

You could try deleting the certs and reinstalling. They are under options.

Have you tried a new sim card?

So, this whole time it was the sim card? I got suspicious of the sim card as that was the only thing left. You'd done everything else right.

Glad you are working!

ya can you believe it?! The crazy thing is that this is the fourth sim card. We had actually tried 3 others. So who knows? I think that maybe my sim card(s) got corrupted while they were trying to figure out my prior UMA issues on the phone. I don't know how to avoid this in the future, but at least I can try sim cards until it works if all else fails.

Great news because the replacement 8320 they sent me must be reconditioned. It sure looks like it's been used. And my 8320 looks totally new compared to it, so I can send back the battered one!

Thanks for all the help!
