Default UMA out in Portland, Oregon

Please Login to Remove!

Experiencing intermittent UMA outages in Portland, Oregon as well since Wednesday or Thursday (12/5-6). Appears to be following the same patterns as I've seen on this thread: out in the late afternoon, back on late at night. I called T-Mobile support yesterday and today, got no real answers. Just switched from Verizon for the @Home coverage since we don't get a wi-fi signal in our house, hoping this isn't a long-term issue!

Welcome to the forums. It's widespread enough, I'm sure they'll get it fixed. I don't know for sure but it could very likely be due to the flooding. My sources said the flooding wasn't that bad at TMo but who knows.

UMA was working for me sporadically throughout the day. Seems like the issue is continuing as usual.

Default UMA outage...

As of 05:55AM central, all 3 of my phones are connected on the UMA network. Hopefully they will stay connected. (Central Mississippi / Bellsouth backbone)

When I woke up today, UMA was back on my phone. Didn't try it out because I was running late to work. I'll see if it works once I get back this evening.

I'm out in Bay Area again (w006.1) at 8:00am. I'm in que with CS and will press them hard to escalate this today. If anybody has time this morning let's call them to put the pressure on. I suspect it's more of a technical issue than a true infastructure failure due to flooding (but I don't know really). At a minimum, I'll be looking for credits on my account...

OK, just got a little more info...

Not official statement, but the tech I spoke with says that they're all guessing it is in deed some kind of failure related to congestion and demand.
-They have seen outages all over the country this weekend that occur at peak times and then there's trouble recovering for some reason.
-He indicated that there are/were 3 main tickets open related to the issue and 1 just got closed this morning, so it seems they are moving in the right direction... -He also stated that it is a known issue with "absolutely TOP priority" at T-Mobile right now.
-This rep I spoke to has a Curve himself and has seen all the bounces we have on his own device at home and sitting next to him at his call center desk...

My take is that T-Mo has a huge advantage right now over other networks for some people with respect to this one feature (UMA), and you can bet they are really motivated to get this really ship-shape for confidence amongst holiday shoppers. I'm willing to try and be patient for a couple of days to see how this settles out. Crossing fingers the figure it out fast!

p.s. the number John posted earlier does indeed go straight to the HotSpot support team - they know what they are talking about with this issue. Save your breath trying to get an update out of the main CSRs...

Default Southern California UMA is out again

UMA is out again for like 10th time since I got it 2 weeks ago. I called tmobile, and asked them why they rolled out UMA if it wasn't ready for the market. Of course t mobile had 10 different reasons for this. Well I am still under 1 month return period, I think 2 curves I purchased is going back to tmobile.

Honestly, I wouldn't mind if new UMA customers slowed down. It would maybe drop the number of users down to a level they could handle until they built out more.

I would guess their techs are having so much additional workload due to the fallout from the flooding that they're spread a little thin.

UMA is probably high on the list of priorities since it's part of their new marketing, but keeping their billing and new customer systems humming along has got to be even higher.

From NYC (Manhattan): UMA out Friday night. Back Saturday morning. Out Saturday night. Back Sunday intermittently. Out part of Monday but now back on. Crazy. But this is just to help others experiencing difficultes. It just seems to be unreliable at the moment. One hopes they will get it stablized soon.

According to this post at BGR, T-Mo has just released another HotSpot@Home capable phone.

I just turned my wifi off altogether. The wifi logo keeps going grey and nothing works. Something is broke at TMo...EDGE for me until this gets resolved.

Well that's a different problem altogether. Throughout these UMA outages, the WiFi porting of my phone for data has been just fine....

Also, UMA is back up at the moment at 2:00pm PST in the Bay Area, CA. Cautiously optimistic here....

Greying out means it's losing the data connection to RIM. It's happening off and on and I've seen it on two different 8320's today. I'm guessing (read hoping) that they're working on it and that's why it's happening.

Tried it again. As of now, still no UMA here....

Glad it's another ugly phone. Looks like the last thing they need right now is extra demand. Maybe they should have gone $24.99 on the H@H.

I switched to T-Mobile just in October sometime and the reason I switched is because I had weak coverage at my home and at my work by most providers and then I tried one UMA 8320 from TMO which seems to work at both places.

But ever since Tuesday Dec 04, 2007 I am truly frustrated due to constant interruptions in UMA service. I have opened trouble tickets with their support who said turn around time is 24 to 72 hours, 10 days in some cases.

I may be just a little over 30 days and am seriously considering opting out of contract. With AT&T I could at least get some week signals at my home and at my work but with TMO none .
