Default Wifi Problem w my 8320

Please Login to Remove!

My BB is having problems working through my WiFi connection and I don't know why. I am very close to the wireless router which works perfectly fine with my laptop. I can use my laptop at 100 meters away no problem, but the phone can't handle it even when I'm right next to the router. The wifi bar shows 2 red bars and calls get dropped to the point it doesn't last long enough to complete the call. I got a Netgear router 108.11b/g at 54kbps using WPA-PSK TKIP. The BB signal level says -48dBm. Any ideas?

Has it worked for you at all ever? I have read other threads here where it seems that Netgear routers seem to have more issues. You may want to use the Linksys router or a Buffalo router.

The phone connects to the router, I get an IP address, I can place calls, but it's very sketchy. The signal strength shows up weak on the BB and it drops calls when I use it. The connection only lasts about 20 secs or so, then it gets disconnected to the router.

I would check the WiFi section of the forum first to see if there are any settings you can change, but I believe changing routers is what will make the difference.

Also, it depends on the speed and type of internet connection connected to your router. Do you have cable or DSL? Are there other computers on the wireless that may be using bandwidth? There are many possible reasons for your troubles.

Moved to the WiFi Forum

Also here's a thread that may help:

8320 Stable Wi-Fi UMA Connection Settings (Linksys)

and try the WiFi/UMA area of the FAQ's at Main Page - BlackBerryFAQ
