Default ATT 8820 / TMo Wifi UMA - 03-24-2008, 10:48 AM

Now that TMo has the 8820 out has anyone discovered how to get an ATT 8820 to use UMA on the TMo network.

I purchased an ATT 8820, unlocked it and use it on TMo. I'm not an expert but I don't think there is any hardware difference between the ATT & TMo 8820's so it should just be some software differences that allow the TMo 8820s to use UMA

Anyone figured this out yet?

I think that maybe, when the 8820 device software is available on myt-mobile.com/bbupgrade. It should fix this problem? instead of using at&t's 8820 software? I thought about getting the 8820 from at&t and unlocking it for t-mobile use, but your issue was the only thing stopping me, UMA. Please give us an update???

None of the other carrier's 8320's will get UMA when unlocked and used on TMobile so I doubt the 8820's and 8120's will be any different.

thanks for clarifying guys. the only reason i wanted at&t's 8820 was because it was black, t-mobile's from my understanding is blue (ugh). I guess I'll have to spend a little extra for a set of black casing.

I wonder why they don't make one with Wi-Fi and GPS?

Really? Why is this?

Even if say you loaded the T-Mobile OS/Software on the device?

Don't know, it just is. It's been tried and unsuccessful. OS doesn't matter.

Guess its just one of those unanswered questions of the universe.

This replaces my pervious question "is time relative?" as the question I want solved!

I speculate this is because either the UMA service books are hard-coded to the device and not software service books, or the carrier ID is hardcoded. So, the only way to get UMA on T-mobile with a non TMO device would be to find some way to reprogram the hardware (if that is even possible).

Thumbs up Ready to use wifi calling (UMA) with 8820 and 8120 - 05-08-2008, 12:39 PM

Go to your t mobile account and click plans and services tab their you have to check the check box called BlackBerry Feature Enabler (Free).
Now remove your battery directly with out shutting down. then keep it again.

Thats it..! You are ready to use Wifi calling (UMA)

That's a great tip but it won't work to make an AT&T branded device get UMA on TMobile.

Sorry for the double post

John Clark,
Question.

So, you know how we use Blackberry.alx to unlock themes with a different Vendor ID. Do you think its possible that Blackberry.alx for TMOBILE could be used in the same fashion. There's gotta be a code in there somewhere that installs the WIFI / UMA settings by Vendor ID. Perhaps we need to "unlock" this in the same fashion as we would the themes?
