Default Stuck yellow wifi connection BB 8820 - 03-31-2008, 07:16 PM

BB 8820 on ATT/Cingular, trying to use the WiFi feature but although the connection seems to be ok the status icon stays yellow and no browsers work.
Is it because my plan includes voice and data, but not Blackberry internet services? For WiFi it should be able to connect to my wireless point, have tried WEP on/off, DHCP on/off, still doesn't work. Is there a way to get WiFi functioning separate from the cell network connection?

Here is the diagnostics, everything looks ok, but still there is no kind of internet connection :(

Your wifi icon will always be yellow unless you have a BB data plan. You should still be able to use the wifi/hotspot browser even without the BB data plan.

Hmm well so the wifi browser should work over Wi Fi even without BB data?
Options -> Browser -> Default has always been set to Wi-Fi

But with cellular wireless disabled nothing can get any connection :(

**edit: It seems like different browsers were running because of what bookmarks got loaded, WiFi browser seems to be working now, even with the SIM card uninstalled ^_^

I know that I can pull my sim card out and connect to my wifi and surf the internet with the wifi browser.

Make sure you're not using Bookmarks that are set to be used with other browsers.

That's what was confusing me, because even though the setting was was to use the WiFi browser as default, some bookmarks tried to load with the other browser

Thanks, that was another thing that confused me, and it seemed like there must be some kind of connection error. After checking the diagnostics it seemed like the connection was being established ok, so it was strange to see the yellow light... now I just ignore it

Hi John,

I have BB 8120 w/o data plan. Does that mean I will be able to access wi-fi services, however my wi-fi icon will always be yellow and log on display will stay grey?

Thanks

You will be able to access the internet with the Hotspot Browser, even if the wifi logo is greyed out. Greyed out just means no BB data connection.
