Default unlocked 8320 using Wifi - 05-23-2008, 12:37 AM

I'm very new to this site as I'm new to having a BB. I am very big on searches and FAQ's but would like to sun up some questions. I have been reading FAQ's and threads for days now regarding the functionality of Wifi and 3rd party programs. I currently have an 8310 and have been considering an 8320 unlocked to my carrier At&T. I do not wish to purchase a data plan at this point and hope to have some functionality with the wifi in free public spots, home and work. I am reading that I will have no UMA. Is that correct? I may be able to check mail if the blackberry enabler feature add on is working, correct? Will I be able to use programs such as messenger or web based email?
My dilema is should I take the plunge and lose my warranty on the new 8310 to get a wifi 8320 with no warranty just for this feature? Will it be worth it since I'm not planning on purchasing a data plan now?

Thanks

Welcome to BBF jaymike!

Yes you will not have UMA b/c AT&T doesn't do UMA. If you just need to use the Wi-Fi you could and you should be okay. You can start reading these threads for more info, I have arranged 'em in the best order possible

1. http://www.blackberryforums.com/wifi...-can-t-do.html
2. http://www.blackberryforums.com/wifi...data-plan.html
3. http://www.blackberryforums.com/wifi...s-linksys.html
4. http://www.blackberryforums.com/wifi...-question.html

Good luck!

Without BlackBerryFAQ.com, all the same questions would've still been asked... over and over again!
