Default Rogers: Wi-fi browsing without network? - 05-24-2008, 06:24 PM

Any Rogers subscriber managed to get wi-fi working without an active mobile network?

I bought an 8820 from the UK (Orange). wi-fi happily works with no mobile network with the Orange sim installed - even when in Canada; but when I change to a Rogers sim, I cannot get wi-fi without first activating the network.

Is this something to do with Orange supporting UMA?

Also, anyone notice the following on Rogers website....

"Starting May 8th, data usage incurred on ineligible devices or while tethering (use of device as wireless modem) or while using applications is subject to pay-per-use charges of $15/MB for the first 5MB, $10/MB for next 5MB, $5/MB for next 10MB and $0.50/MB thereafter"
