Question Converting 8320 from Tmobile to Rogers and/or Fido UMA - 08-19-2008, 11:09 AM

Hi,

I was wondering if anybody has the server settings for Rogers and Fido UMA servers as well as the certificates.

I have my 8320 in engineering mode and access to the UMA settings but I can't figure out what to put in there and need the certificates.

thanks

As far as my experience goes, in TCP settings for fido you need internet.fido.ca and fido as both username and password.

I don't think that you will be able to use a T-Mobile 8320 for any other carrier's UMA service. I could be mistaken and if I am, hopefully someone who knows this for sure will happen along to correct me.

You are correct that is burned into the firmware.

Over on HOward's forum, a number of people have tried to get various devices working on different carrier's networks. Only one person has claimed sucess and many people doubt him. That unit was an unlocked HP running Windows mobile and UMA. Truphone has a sip based VOIP client that will work on a Blackberry. They give US users a free US phone number (register with a US SIM). British users get a UK number. Everyone else just gets outbound service. The UK number can receive SMSes. The US one won't. The experience is similar to UMA, but the technology is very different.
