Default Facebook for Blackberry - 09-16-2008, 01:59 AM

Hi everyone,

Can the Facebook for Blackberry application connect using WiFi [and therefore work without a data plan]?

I just purchased my Curve 8320 a few days back and am still awaiting an unlock code I purchased online so I can finally subscribe to a Blackberry plan with the carrier I am using. [The website says I'll have to wait for about 2 weeks.]

In the meantime, I really want to get my Facebook app up and running (with Wifi), but I get this message upon login: 'You are currently on a service plan that does not support this application. Please contact your service provider for additional information to upgrade your current service plan.'

That pretty much states the obvious but I have heard talks of people being able to log onto the app with just their WiFi connection. I'm thinking I just have to play with the settings a little bit.

Any ideas? Thanks very much!

Wirelessly posted (BB 8330)

You might have to wait til you get a data plan to download the app to your BB for it to work.

I already have the Facebook app - downloaded it from my laptop which was transferred to my Bberry via USB/Desktop Manager. I'm just trying to figure out now how to get it to work without a data plan because I've read elsewhere that it's possible for some (with just WiFi).

Hi, I'm having an issue where Facebook is installed and I can find it in the application list under options, but the application itself i can't find to open it... where did it go? (this's right after a new OS install to 4.5)

Sigh. This is a thread about using Facebook with WiFi only.
Please don't bring a new problem into an existing thread. Bad form.

Make sure it is not hidden. Click the menu button and show all.

FB works OK for me WiFi, I turned off the "mobile network" in Manage Connections to check, and it works fine, but there is no way to force it to use WiFi if "Mob Network" is on...

My Facebook app has a bug in it. If I reboot my BB, Facebook will not work via WiFi. As soon as I'm in range of an EDGE connection, it works fine. When I go back to Wifi, it works fine. It appears there is something that is initialized that won't work over WiFi. As I said, this looks like a bug, rather than a feature...

In theory it should work fine over WiFi.
