TL;DR at bottom

Long story short I'm the most technical out of a family of nerds so it falls to me to make everything work without letting the magic smoke out. We've got a T-mo myfaves family plan with unlimited messaging, both of them running BlackberryOS 4.0, and I get capital EDGE and UMA and I've already got them configured with the T-mo APN and to automatically recognize our home's wifi.

And that's about where I run into the Wall of Ignorance and lose a few teeth. We skipped a data plan because just about everywhere we'll ever be here in central florida has free wifi or is next to someplace that does, so we figured we could just use wifi for internet (google maps, online email, etc) and unlimited messaging to cover the rest.

I'm still digging through the manual, which is only just smaller than Civ2's, but I just want to make sure that A) this will work and B) that we don't brush up against anything that they'll tack onto our bill.

TL;DR: How can I be sure we're only browsing the web using wifi, and what's a browser that doesn't suck as much as the ones already on here. What works for free over wifi or can be downloaded over USB and run free. Does a blackberry come with any free services, and with blackberryOS 4.0 do I still need to call and ask for the Feature Enabler. And lastly how the hell do I delete all the crap I don't want on here like games and programs I don't use?

TL;DR? eh?

You can try the Opera Mini browser for WiFi. That is the only other browser available outside of the RIM native browsers.

On TMo, you do need to get the Feature Enabler for the BlackBerry. That will enable some additional features you would not have with NO BB Data Plan.

You will experience some regret at times, not having a Data Plan. Be sure to read this thread for some clues...

Finally, crap you don't want: Since you didn't mention specifically want those items are, using my imagination do so one of two ways:
Options > Advanced > Applications > highlight the app you don't want > Menu > Delete. If not listed in the apps, also look at Applications > Menu > Modules for any. Delete there.

There will be other web shortcuts and stuff that TMo loads or pushes to the device that you canNOT delete. Those, just hide the icons. I create a folder on my homescreen called 'junk', and move (homescreen > hover over icon > Menu > Move) those into the junk folder, then hide the junk folder.

Good luck, and welcome to the BBForums.

Check the FAQs here for more info than you will ever need to know.

And just to be absolutely sure, if I'm connected to someone elses wifi with the feature enabler on and I'm browsing around with opera it doesn't cost me anything? I get that google maps and other stuff might not work but I want to be sure that I don't wind up getting a japanese hello because I googled something or checked my email at a starbucks.

[edit]

And connecting to my own private wifi or a starbucks or whatever doesn't use minutes does it?
