Unhappy WiFi Data Services with AT&T without Data Plan

Please Login to Remove!

It seems that the Blackberry 8820 on AT&T needs to have the Data Services option enabled in the Mobile Network options in order for the internet connection to WiFi networks at all. The downside is that when a WiFi network is not available, it will use the BIS/BES instead. The downside is that since I'm not subscribed to the data plan I'm going to get charged an arm and a leg (Although I can control whether I use the WiFi browser, other BB applications won't care if I'm WiFi connected or BIS connected to the internet and will connect regardless).

What I really need to is to disable BIS so that all data goes through WiFi or not at all (luckily I have wireless in most places. Does anyone know how to turn off BIS without disabling the Data Services option in the Mobile Network options?
