UMA-works on 1 DSL modem, not others -

Before I grab a razor blade and head for my wrists, does anyone have any input on why I can get uma on my 8320 on one DSL modem, but after moving right down the street, no joy on the next one? They are telco provided cheapies - not too many changes available to settings. I know for a fact that both were set up by the telco and never touched again.
It connects to my Linksys wifi & the Net and I can use my BB browser, but I get UMA error code w006.1. I can ping the t-mob security gateway, but it never authenticates.
I can still connect to uma at most hotspots, minutes after leaving my house, where it didn't work (so it's not an outage or any BB settings). After hours of pouring over the settings in this different modem, I can't see any dif from the previous one. IPSEC is enabled.
Thanks folks..
