Default WiFi and BB App World not compatible - 09-03-2009, 11:45 PM

Hi

I was intending to use the BB Flip with Wifi to access the Blackberry App World. Just like I have done on my Apple iTouch. I am not paying for a dataplan.

But Rim does not offer this feature. Can only access BB Apps with a dataplan as I find out after I purchased the phone.

Now why is this RIM? Won't you make more money with Apps if you open up the Wifi port for apps.

Thanks for everyone posting apps that actually can be downloaded ie not from the BB app world. Seems RIM has started a little underground market.

I think it's like everything else: BBM, push email -- you only get that with a BIS plan. Same goes for BB App world. Plus I'm sure they assume that most people who have BlackBerry devices have a data plan.

RIM has a new device coming out that the WiFi is unlocked. So you wont have to have a data plan. It is a GSM phone so you can pop your SIM into it. We have been testing it out. It is pretty cool for those people who only want or need data access within a WiFi area.

Wirelessly posted (Tmo's cheapest BB customer)

What's it called (code name)?

wifi is unlocked on all GSM berries... the doesnt change the fact that you need a connection to the BB server to get app world

I am on BIS plan (15$/month) wich includes unlimited messaging (email, MSN Yahoo, Facebook...) with no other data then that.

In the top right corner, I see 3G, the blackberry logo and WIFI logo.

Is it normal that i cannot use App World, Google maps and other apps when I am on WI-FI??

I get the message " upgrade your service to a plan that include browsing".

Thanks

App World and Google Maps aren't messaging, so yeah, I'd say that is normal.
