Default APN SETTINGS -Are these needed at all? - 10-10-2009, 01:53 PM

Hello,

This may sound like a simple/stupid questions, but do you need to input any of these settings?

What are these settings used for?

I have Rogers Pay As You Go on a Blackberry 8900

Thanks,

Wirelessly posted (Tmo's cheapest BB customer)

I don't have a technical answer but I believe the APN tells your device where to connect to for data services provided by your carrier.

It does make a difference though between having and not having the right one.

APN is only needed if you are using direct TCP access. Many applications that use direct TCP also include tables of all APNs and can configure themselves to your carrier. RIM has been trying to convince carriers to pre-configure devices with the correct APN. If everything you want connects then I would suggest you don't do anything.
