Hii just got my blackberry curve this morning.
Firstly this UMA thing, it picks up my wifi at home but when i try to connect is says about putting the pin into the modem which i cant? And if i press to do it manualy and type the network name in it doesnt connect??

Secondly, the phone is on contract with orange and included internet and i have set up my personal hotmail on the phone, but when the phone notifies me of an email is this using my internet allowance??

1. If you have a router with "wi-fi protected setup" enabled, it will tell the device trying to connect, to give you a PIN; this is then entered in the correct page of your router settings.
If you do not maintain the router at your house, talk to the person that does.

2. Yes, email is data, internet allowance is everything that is data.
