I have tried 7 open connections and cannot get connected to wifi what so ever. But I can use hotspots just fine.....

So what exactly should I look for.

(Seriously - asking this question) - what is an "open connection"? A WiFi router with no security? Yes. It can connect to that. Even a WiFi router with a WEP key. By Hotspot I guess you mean a T-Mobile Hotspot (hotel/Starbucks/Border's)?

Yea I understand that. But I cant never connect to a open connection. I walk into a starbucks and I dont even have to think about it, it just connects.

I have tried so many times and just wont let me surf the net. I just needed some reassurance that it work, regardless if I had to make a stupid post to find out. I turn off GSM and just have wifi and it says connection but it just times out. Oh well I guess i just buy some coffee from Starbucks, and go stay at a Hyatt hotel near a wifi enabled airport

Do you have WiFi at home? I connect fine at home, at work, at my sister's house....

I tried to use my aparments open wifi connection,my jobs, 3 neighbors open wifi, chick filas, schlotzsky's and Denny's and nothing.

But I have been to 4 starbucks, 2 tmo stores and a borders bookstore and hotspots works flawless.

Odd are you sure they are open and not secured with at least a WEP key???

I just turned encryption off and had no problem connecting...

Would it tell me I need a key? Because I asked my apartments and they say it is not a password...

how do you turn encryption off. when i go to manage wifi network and then click the connection and hit edit for the various open networks it says that security is none inall of them.

Ok to update to this situation. I walked around my apartment complex and i was able to automatically hook up to open connections all over the place. My apartments are built like a hotel, indoor hallways, real close neighbors etc. Also I went to another apartment complex and their pool side wifi was able to auto connect as well. So it is just the apartments wifi problems

Just to help out, I was helping a friend move into a new place today and stole some free WiFi from whomever was broadcasting it - complete random open connection, I hooked right up without any problems and was off and gmailing, browsing, etc. The two (new) roomates mentioned that the free wifi I found was what they used, it was better than the one they pay for! haha...

boy am i having troubles with my curve... i can connect to specified networks if i turn wifi off and on again, but when i lose the wifi, like when im driving, and then get near another network, it wont pick up the wifi again until i turn it off and then back on again... qos is on, etc... all settings are good... works great when connected, but when its in between... notta!

Are your connections set to Automatic, not Manual? (Options -> WiFi) And do you have them ordered in preference?
