Hey Lunk, saw this in another thread, maybe you would like to try it out and see how it works as an email client. It's called LogicMail. It has both IMAP and Pop3 from what I saw on the page.

BIS do not actually support full IMAP. Are there IMAP Alternatives?

Data plan off now....everything is working fine as far as using apps over wifi goes. I guess it was the service books.

Default Unloacked 8320 on rogers in Canada

Hey guys,

I just got the 8320 from ebay unlocked(new) and it was from t-mobile. So far I can't get my wifi to work, it connects to the AP fine but the status remains "yellow". When I ran the wifi diagnostics it said under wifi that it can't get an ip. I checked in the host routing table and its empty. I alright tried it with other routers with no luck...I think I got an ip once but it still didn't let me to go online.

The borwser is set to Wifi browser.

I think for most of you guy are still on the T-mobile network although u don't have a data plan and u guys have the option of using the BB service enabler...

Do you guys know how I can get my 8320's wifi to work without a dataplan(rogers)? It sounds like u need UMA to work? But that is only with T-mobile?

My guess is that you need the BlackBerry Enable feature and uppercase UMA / EDGE.... Since you can't get this on Rogers, i'd say nothing will work for you...

you should still be able to browse the internet. I was able to do that even without the sim card in my curve. As far as I know wi-fi browsing is open and can be used by everyone, you may need to have the enabler feature from your carrier to allow the applications to connect though

I think you are correct in a way.

Like I said in my previous post you will be able to use the wi-fi browser without having a SIM card. However none of the applications work. They all keep asking for a data connection from the carrier. Now this does not make sense to me.

If you have an internet connection ( a wi-fi network), have a device which talks to it (the 8320), and have applications that you can install on the device (gmail, google maps) then should you need a data connection from the carrier.

Now from what I understand this is very different on other phones like the HTC touch, where a user can install a phone compatible application and then it works with or without a specific carrier network.

Now dont get me wrong.. This is a great phone, and works great, but if you go travelling and jump carriers you need to be aware that your applications will not work just because you have connected to a certain carrier.

I dont know if this has been posted anywhere else, thought it would be better to post it here

as a follow up to this, does anyone know if there is an OS , upgrade that you can change to which would allow you to access the internet over wi-fi for all those applications ?

Just a quick question about the gmail apps...

You got them working with a wifi connection without a data plan? Or did you get them working on EDGE without a data plan?

Red face Voice using my home internet Wi-Fi (Not Hotspot @ Home)

OK, I understand from your posts that I can use some apps over wifi (so long as I first have a data plan for at least a day). I currently have the BB data plan (need it while im out of the office/home), but I would like to use my existing (not H@H) wifi for my voice minutes. I have read that Tmo will still charge use my allotted minutes, is this true? Is there some way around it (other than paying for H@H)? I have two phone numbers (not family plan) on my account, would I be able to use both phones with the same H@H if I am forced to use it? I already don't like having to pay for H@H, and definitely don't want to have to pay for it twice!! If the data can go over wifi without Tmo charging, why can't the phone calls (or can they)? (My wireless router is out of state at the moment or I'd test it myself).

Thanks!!! Angee

There is no way to get around UMA using your alotted minutes without the H@H plan. If you want unlimited UMA you need H@H. That's just how it works. End of story.

Thanks John. Hmm.. Can both of my phones share the same H@H account? or does each phone need their own account (can they operate at the same time...)...

No, they each need their own H@H account. In order to get UMA on the device the data has to go through TMobile's system over the internet. Each phone must have the proper account and certificates installed.

To answer a lot of your questions...I am using the BB8320....nothing was working on my BB as far as apps over wifi goes....updated to 4.2.2.180 still nothing....had the data plan added to my account for a day. The service books were Dl'd to my 8320. Got rid of the data plan the next day....Everything has been working BB Maps, Google Maps, Gmail those are the only three I have tried so far. Since t-mobile only charges for usage...I was only charged for the data plan for like $0.80 for the day....was well worth it!

Did a backup of the service books...is there anything else in specific that I should back-up so I dont loose the wifi app access when ever I have to update down the road?
