MSN Messenger from Blackberry on T-mobile UK
Hi,
Finally Blackberry have released MSN Messenger on there site that I can infact download on my phone. Previously it would give me an error that my device was not supported. Now that I i've successfully installed it, it won't work. It just tries connecting for ages and then says: Connection Error (65): Problem receiving data from the Server. Tried asking T-Mobile (UK) Customer services, but they are stupid and refuse to help as its nothing to do with them and I haven't been able to get through to technical support, was on hold for an hour and then got cut off. I was wondering if anyone else is having this problem ??? At the moment I'm not sure if its a MSN Problem or T-Mobile might have some ports blocked or application restrictions Thanks for your help. |
Do you have a BlackBerry data plan?
|
Yes. Activated since time began, also resent the service books to my phone. Still no Joy.
|
Spoke to T-Mobile Technical support. They claim they don't block any ports on their network.
Would be interesting to know if anyone else has this problem ? |
Same here, T-mobile UK, it's just says service is not supported all together.
|
Would be interested if anyone on T-Mobile UK could install and run this software ?
|
Installed ok. Got some service books from BGR, if I recall correctly. Just sits there trying to connect, and displays an error 65. I've not read of anyone able to fix that, sadly.
|
I think it's a service book issue. T-Mobile UK don't send out any WLM service books. And though they may indeed not block ports on the general GPRS APN, I suspect this service runs over the the BB APN, which is controlled by RIM/the operator. I've also read that there has to be a 'deal' between each operator in each country with Microsoft before the service can be "switched on".
Still looking for a workaround... ;-) |
fyi, getting the same errors on tmobile in the US.
|
I had previously been getting the same error messages as everyone has. I have just been on the phone with T-Mobile UK, asking why my Windows Live Messenger wont work... and they informed me that I would have to upgrade my service to Web 'n' Walk PLUS (for an extra £5 a month) to make it work.
When I asked about the benefits of web 'n' walk plus, the girl had to transfer me to the technical team (which wasn't reassuring), and they explained to me that it gave me a higher data fair useage policy (3GB instead of 1GB), video downloads, and I can also use my Blackberry as a mobile modem for my laptop... not sure how it will work, but I have signed up to it for a month to see... the mobile broadband might come in handy. |

Has this now resolved your problem with MSN Messenger ? |

When I spoke to T-Mobile customer service a few days ago they pleaded ignorance. I have an inside contact who's chasing this issue for me. I'll report back if I can get it working. |
not yet... I called back and they said to give it another day or so for the web 'n' walk plus to kick in... I will post once I get a result...if any!
|
Well, I'm still not on W+W plus, but have extra service books and a new error message, so something's happening.
Now I get the "Connection Error (65): Problem receiving data from the Server." with the service books from TM-UK |
Windows Live Messenger on T-Mobile UK
Hello
I'm using a BlackBerry Curve and am a pre-pay customer with T-Mobile UK. I don't have a Windows Live Messenger icon on my BlackBerry. My friend's got a pay-contract SIM and is now using Windows Live Messenger on his T-Mobile BlackBerry. I called T-Mobile and they told me that the Windows Live Messenger service is only available for pay-contract and BES customers. Not for Pay-As-You-Go customers. Was anyone in this forum successful in using Windows Live Messenger on their T-Mobile UK BlackBerry? If so - can you please share a) which BlackBerry? b) are you pay-as-you-go or pay monthly? c) is it working well? Thank you Andy |
Not working and I'm on a contract.
> they informed me that I would have to upgrade my service to Web 'n' Walk PLUS I'd be surprised > they told me that the Windows Live Messenger service is only available > for pay-contract and BES customers Maybe I'm not sure they know themselves at the moment! > My friend's got a pay-contract SIM and is now using Windows Live Messenger > on his T-Mobile BlackBerry There is hope for the rest of us then! |
> My friend's got a pay-contract SIM and is now using Windows Live Messenger
> on his T-Mobile BlackBerry Can he tell us how? I havent had time to chase up T-Mobile in regards to this, as it is still not working. Hope to do so by the end of the week. |
i've installed MSN messenger after changing vendor codes in .alx file. But when i started msn messenger it showed me a message that service is not supported :(
|
Got it working now :-). There's an extra service book you need sending that TM-UK need to provision for you if you don't get it automatically.
lil_ray_man, I def don't have Web 'n' Walk Plus (only Web 'n' Walk) |

Got them to resend service books, but I've still got the same problem. Can you assist with who you spoke to or further technical information ? T-mobile are of NO help what's so ever ! |
Did you get escallated to 2nd line tech ("TDMS" I think they're called). If so, try again. It depends who you got, I guess. It may help if you start by talking about needsing to be "provisioned" for WLM (not that you're after a missing service book). They spoke of a missing service book, but having looked, now I'm not so sure. Maybe it IS a provisioning issue on the TMUK network (not a RIM service book)
If not make sure the person you talk to in first line thinks the question is complicated enough they have to escallate it :-) |

Just spoke to T-mobile again. They are going to look into the problem, but I'm not gonna hold my breath. Can you give me the name of the person that sorted out the problem ? Or BB messenger it to me ? |
I don't have their name. Sorry.
But when I called end of July, they (even in TDMS) pleaded ignorance to me too. This time I got someone who also knew I had to download the app from RIM. Irritating and fustrating I know. Seems to take a while for the info to perculate to everyone in support :-| |
I'm on the same boat.
Error 65, using T-Mobile UK web n walk. Tried reinstalling OTA twice. Battery pull twice. Now I don't know what else to do. |

I would call'em up every couple of days - you'll get someone diff every time. Possibly also worth saying you know someone who's on a contract plan with w'n'w who def has it working after exactly the same problem, after TM provisioned 'something' for them... |
Ladies and Gentlemen ........ ITS WORKING !!!!!!!!!
Now, the secret ..... Ask 'em to provision your device for AOL ..... they will have to look deeper into the provisioning side, speak to 2nd line support. IT WORKS !!!!!!!!!!! |
BTW, thanks Wibbly for getting the ball moving on this one !!!!!!
|
thanks for the tips on 'provisioning'. Im going to give them a call later and ask them to do that for me.
Ok so today, when I woke up I had a various links to download AOL, Yahoo! Mess, ICQ and Flickr apps. Thinking that WLM might work, I tried it, and it didnt, but Google Talk and Flickr both work. Anyone else have this? |
Just phoned T-Mobile UK to add the AOL and Windows Provisioning and they say it isn't officially available yet as it is still being tested. Therefore wouldn't allow me to have it and that I have to wait for it to be formally available in the next month or so
ash_786 who did you speak to there - did you meet any resistance? Dave |
I'm on Orange UK and i cant get live messenger to work at all but i think thats due to the fact orange dont support the client at all.
But I found free program called Instango that allows MSN, ICQ, AIM, YAHOO in one handy client. instango.com - Mobile Messaging Works a treat on my blackberry Curve 8320 and prefer it better to Live Messenger anyways :D. |

is the only way to get online with a curve, with a data plan? theres no wi-fi... |
IT WORKS!!
Persistance paid off.. keep calling and if you get the right person on the support team then they will activate something for you that lifts restricions... Thanks for all your help guys... |
Worked first time on my Curve on T mobile!
Chas |
hi everybody, have a question here. i own a bb 8320, my live messenger gives me an error saying "data services unavailable" even when im connected to the net thru wifi. is there anything i can do to make it work and thanks in advance for you all.
|
I work for t-mobile TDMS and previously we weren't pleading ignorance re msm on the bb, it required extra provisioning which will deliver the service book required, however we officially have to wait until RIM officially give us the go-ahead before we add this provisioning.
Alternatively you can download and install the new device software (4.5) which should be prov'd all ready. It also does other neat stuff like enables video camera functions among others. |

> But when I called end of July, they (even in TDMS) pleaded ignorance to > me too. Well, back in July, it was certainly the case that the TDMS person *I* spoke to knew nothing about how to get MSN Messenger working on a BB, or how I managed to download it, from where, etc. BUT - it's all working now, and in general I've found TM-UK support and especially TDMS (second line) excellent - knowlegable, helpful, interested, and not willing to 'give up'. Basically, highly recommended. |
