Software For BlackBerry® Pearl Flip (TM) 8220 smartphone
This will load on any carrier's 8220 model BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.6.0.337 (EastAsia) Software Name: BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.6.0.344 (Multilanguage) File Name: 8220M_PBr4.6.0_rel344_PL4.1.0.71_A4.6.0.200_Fast10 0.exe Download Size: 88.321 MB https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...584A770&step=4 Instructions for installing on ANY 8220(regardless of carrier) 1. Download the above OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded. 2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml." 3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file. The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization." If, for some reason, you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to the PC again and run Loader.exe again and it should load the OS to the device. Note For Advanced Users Only: If you plan on deleting the cod file for pre-installed media your exterior LCD will not function correctly. This does not pertain to people doing normal installs. You will not be affected. For the previous version of this OS: http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...east-asia.html |

Damnit!! I just updated the wife's 8220 last night with .195!
*Sigh* she will kick my butt for doing it again, but it must be done. ;) |
who is the wiz on the forums with the BlackBerry.xml file?
I'm pretty xml savvy i just need to know what is ok to delete. ' I'm wondering if it's possible and if there is any advantage to not loading some of the additional OS layer software. For example there is code to load PGP and other crypto software (for enterprise and government i assume) but i'm using the phone for gmail... so do i really need all that? Has someone written a thinned out Blackberry.alx that gives only the consumer level functions and does not load anything else? This is all a mute point if there is no UI speed improvements or overall system performance benefits from this. This question all stems from how slow and lagy the 8220 OS is thus far. Maybe i'm wrong but i don't recall my previous 8320 or 8100 or 8700 or 7290 being like this, even on the initial build. I'll load this new .200 OS and see how it goes but i imagine it's the same as .195 but with additional carrier info. Cheers |
I upgraded to this new version,
I'm having intermittent SMS problems, when I click on the SMS icon I get a "java.lang.nullpointer.exception" I've sent all the service books etc, I am on a BES we are allowed to install 3rd party applications (not that this is) it does this after a battery pull, then if I do another battery pull it fixes itself. Anybody else having problems like this? |
lmao......I've been trying to load the new OS for the past 10 minutes through DM. just as I was about to give up I noticed step #3 (loader.exe). I've never had to utilize this before and I've been through numerous 8310 & 8320 upgrades.
I must remember to read all instructions before proceeding with any install....... |
I upgraded on Friday and now I had a processed killed error with the MySpace app, and today I had a processed killed error with the Messaging app followed by error 523.
I suspect the 523 error was caused by the messaging application so I'm looking at the prospects of a wipe and restore. Anyone else got this or an idea to fix this besides a wipe and reinstall? I think it may be associated with the receipt of SMS messages. |

T-Mobile website says .180 is the latest version. |

WOW.. thanks all. that solved my outside screen and buttons issue. I'm excited to tell you the truth. I re-installed the .180 that t-mobile says is the latest a couple of times and fully nuked the phone before doing so and nothing worked. but with this latest OS, the outside screen is fixed.
I also noticed a couple of things improved, like by default the mobile connection is turned on by default. very cool!! |
I have now upgraded OS twice (currently on 200) but the damn dialing lag doesn't seem to go away. I have ~250 contacts so curious if that has anything to do with it. The phone is usable, but never snappy.
|
I need to downgrade back to .180. For whatever reason, the messaging app crashes and burns when a text message is received. I don't know if the problem is within the messaging modules or if it maybe related to the profiles and/or notifications modules, but this OS is unusable for me.

does it have Russian menu/input?

I also believe that it is only a few users that are having issues with the .200 release. I have had zero issues so far on .200, and I receive/send many texts & emails every day. It has been quite stable (for me) so far... been running .200 for ~8 days now. /BD 8-) |

I think it's just a case of identifying the problem modules in .200 and replace them with the same module from .180. If the app loader doesn't do a checksum of the modules against a manifest, they should load at the very least. If the modules have to pass a checksum test before installation then it's a matter of obtaining the proper checksum and editing the manifest. Whether or not they run, work and play nice is the big question. When I feel motivated to sit down and do the dirty work, I will try it (unless a new stable version comes out before I try). |
which version support chinese character?
.195 or .200? |
Well I put .200 back on my flip and it was fine for 8 hours then the messaging app crashed, and on the last SMS I recieved, it dumped me into a 523 error.
Ufortunately I'm at work now, but I have .180 at home still and I'm going to try and selectivly remove the offending modules with javaloader and reinstall the .180 versions with javaloader as well. My guess it should run, but I don't think it will brick to paper weight status. Worst case is that I wipe it clean and reinstall the damn thing with .180. |
I Did It!
I couldn't use javaloader.exe thanks to complications of using my keyboard with windows in a virtual machine. However after copying the presumed problem modules from the .180 package to the .200 package, I did a wipe and reinstall with the .200 loader and all is running well. It will take a little time to figure out if the problems with the full .200 are not present but my flip is now running with the mashup os. The modules I copied are:
Mashing up the os versions is probable and possible. |

Please keep us all informed as to how things go and if you see any recurrences of the messaging error, screeching speaker phone etc that a few folks have seen on .200 /BD 8-) |
Quote:
As far as the screechy phone, I still have that, but I noticed it more so when I hold the phone in my right hand than my left. My guess is that the new phone app has drastically increased the mic gain and the palm of my right hand is grips it just right to redirect the sound from the speaker to the mic. Thus creating a nasty feedback loop. I did notice that the dial lag is back a little bit, but I will see what happens as the phone goes on with needing a reset. |
with all these new carriers, you would think we would get a new OS. still 200 is the highest that i found.

Ok I've been getting the dreded 523 error and I'm not sure what's causing it. A bad app, running the .180 modules I posted earlier with the .200 os, or what.
Any one here skilled at deciphering the Event Log and can identify what's causing my 523 issue? If so I'll post my log. |
So far i've only found one fault with this software and its the same problem that my Bold had when it was on ver. 4.6.0.190
When you go into the Music section and then select either Genre or Album it comes up with No Artist so you can't view the artists per Genre or Album name... Yet when you select Artist it comes up with the artist name Small niggle but still a niggle all the same - if RIM apply the same fix to the next OS update like they did to Ver. 4.6.0.216 for the Bold then i will have (for the first time ever) no complaints on my Pearl flip |
Well I ended up going back to .180. I started having the same issues as the full .200 install. This is what I can determine.
- The issues with .200 are not in the modules I replaced with .180 modules. - The problem is somewhere in the OS core or the notifications system. - It makes me want to drink. |
I GOT PACKAGE ERROR EVERY TIME i try to download this file. its app version 209 but bad installer file.

Does .209 have the SMS issues?
Edit, nevermind. The folks over at Crackberry.com tested it to have the same SMS issues as .200. |
what sms issue?

What I wouldn't give for a change log.
