December 21st 2012 - What's your thoughts on that day?
 

It seems like there's not a day that goes by that there's not a movie, special, etc about the apocalypse prophecy that foretells the End of the World. My wife believes it will happen, my glass is half full on the subject and I figured it would be a good "sensitive" discussion;-) topic.

Oh, I'll put a $1,000,000 bet that the world DOES NOT end on 12/21/2012. Of course, if it does who is going to collect from me? :razz:

Balderdash. It can't end, the government hasn't figured out a way to take our entire paycheck as taxes yet.

I'm hoping aliens show up. We all know they had much to do with the development of the Aztec and Mayan civilizations.

I'm a big conspiracy theory/paranormal buff :razz:

This isn't the first time that the nutjobs have declared the end is near and here is the date. My favorite is "The Great Disappointment of 1844." Read up on it and how the crazies from that "dooms day" are still trying to screw things up for us sane ones today. Wiki is a good place to start.

The best explaination I heard for the Dec 21, 2012 date is that the Mayan stonemason ran out of stone.

It will all go arse up on 12/20/2012 (or 20/12/2012 to UK peeps)

I think the Mayans figured they went out far enough & someone in the future would, you know, just ADD ON to it.

I still say Aliens. They were the ones who built the pyramids after all.

The Mayan calendar is like the Y2K bug. They just stopped because they figured there's no way anyone would still be using it by now.

Ok, actually I heard it's more akin to December 31st. It just starts right back up the next day on January 1, with the calendar starting all over again.

so 21/12/2012.. end of the world..

right ok.. what timezone does it start in? will it already be 22/12/2012 in some parts of the world? because if that's the case... then the prediction went all goofy didn't it?
