running two bes at the same time

I looked thru this thread but my system is a bit different so i wanted to start my own thread as to not confuse his.
http://http://www.blackberryforums.c...t-servers.html

Im about to migrate to a whole new physical platform but will not be changing versions of BES. Bes is 4.0 SB. I have all the instructions i need to get 4.0 to work with exchange 2007 and the old bes is working as intended.

However the old platform is getting dated and i want to put this on a new box. I only have 6 users and the plan is to re-sync each user one by one on the new server. that just seams simpler then trying to move the DB's around.

So my question is, Can i have two bes servers running at the same time while i move these users over? I can bring the whole system offline but i would love to have one user down at any one time while i remove them from the old bes and add them to the new one.

I just was not sure how licensing would be affected or react.

You can migrate to the BlackBerry® Professional Software from BlackBerry® Enterprise Server xxx8211; Small Business Edition
Version 4.0 or later. If you have a small business solution that is earlier than Version 4.0, you must upgrade to Version 4.0
or later before you migrate to the BlackBerry Professional Software.

and it is free and more updated and supported by RIM

Also supports Exchange 2007, 4.0 does not.

BlackBerry Professional Free download

And to answer my own question. No you cant run two instances of the same server at the same time.

Correct.

Looks like you did some checking and for free BPS is possibly the best way to go and current cals will not be lost.

let us know how you progress.

The only thing you might miss when going to BPS from SBE is Enterprise Messenger.

Then you wont be missing it on the free version.

In order to get that you will have to upgrade to FULL BES and that will cost about $2800.00 USD.
