trapster and rogers on the bold...

I just downloaded trapster. Haven't started using it though. My questions is that on the site it says it follows you constantly using the GPS. Will this be then using my data costantly and rack up a huge amount of data?

If so, any idea how much data it will actually use. I have a 500MB plan.

Thanx.

Yes...it does use your data just the same if you were to use Google Maps or the BB Maps. But the data used is pretty small. Each refresh is only about 16 - 23 kb.

I used trapster for a little while but quit, so my memory may be off. But as I recall there's a map feature which updates as you move, right? In that case, you would be using a lot of data.

ya I wanted to know if it refreshed every min or what the actual time is.

The refresh is pretty constant as you're driving around.

Wish I could help you there. I assume you've drilled down through all the options in the application and experimented?

Does it use http or the apn? I don't remember. To be safe, do you have the apn set on your BB?

I dunno what that means of how I do it.

See BlackBerry Glossary - BlackBerryFAQ and What are the TCP and APN settings? - BlackBerryFAQ.

From trapster, bring up the menu and look for options or configuration or whatever, select that, and then look through all the settings options. There may be one for the user to select how the appliation connects to the network. I don't remember. There may not be a setting for this. But if there is, try different settings.

But before you do all that, you may want to get smarter on your carrier's data prices. I gather with some carriers, data through the apn is priced differently.
