samples not wanted

There is a folder in my pictures of sample wallpapers.
not wanted/not needed.

Also in the media player a couple of song snipits under the title of sample music.
not wanted/not needed.

These files are locked. Is there a way to remove this?
Taking up room for nothing...............

MidnightDraven 02-06-2009 03:00 PM

from what ive heard - no they are not removable at all

MPS 02-06-2009 03:07 PM

yes they are
you will have to send ur phone to service center

culture 02-06-2009 03:09 PM

these are very easily removable.

First go into the following folder: Program Files>Common Files>Research in Motion>AppLoader
Delete the file named:
Vendor.xml

Next, go into the following folder: Program Files>Common Files>Research in Motion>Shared>Loader Files>*select OS>Java

Remove these files:
net_rim_bb_medialoader_480x320_b.cod
net_rim_bb_medialoader_backgrounds_480x320_b.cod
net_rim_bb_medialoader_music_480x320_b.cod

you can also remove these if you dont want the vendor themes etc. It will not remove the Precision Zen & Precision Silver themes:
net_rim_bb_medialoader_114_five_icon_library.cod
net_rim_theme_102_zen_480x320_b.cod
net_rim_theme_114_480x320_b.cod
net_rim_theme_115_480x320_b.cod
net_rim_theme_119_zen_480x320_b.cod
net_rim_theme_122_zen_480x320_b.cod

Create a subfolder called Removed Icons, and move them to that folder. Then plug in your blackberry, run the desktop manager and update your phone.

Doesnt removing the carrier themes brick the phone? Or is that removing the precision theme bricks the phone.

Leave the precision themes, remove the ones instructed.

theoldman 02-07-2009 01:30 PM

this is as far as I can find in Windows XP Pro

Go into the following folder: Program Files>Common Files>Research in Motion>

no Shared>Loader Files>*select OS>Java to be found?

MidnightDraven 02-07-2009 01:45 PM

then you havent installed the OS thats on your phone, onto the PC.

To clarify: There could be many subfolders within the Loader Files folder. Every time you install a new OS on that particular computer it will create a new folder for that OS. For instance the *select OS folder on my computer here would be a folder called: 9000-v4.6.0.234_P4.0.0.196

Then within the 9000-v4.6.0.234_P4.0.0.196 folder, there is a subfolder called Java.

If there are no folders within the Loader Files folder, then you have not installed the OS from that computer and will not be able to remove the unwanted files.

These suggestions sounded great. So I deleted all of those "medialoader" files and the "five icon" files listed above. Here's my results:

1. I use to have 49 megs free after a baterry pull. Now that I've deleted all the "medialoader" files, I have only 44 megs free after a battery pull.

2. Those stupid sample pictures (BMW, etc.) are still there.

Is there any explanation as to why my free memory is worse than before and why those unwanted samples are still on my phone?

you have not installed the OS from that computer
How is this done?

MidnightDraven 02-08-2009 07:26 AM

When you go to your carrier update service, or directly from the link in the stickied thread for latest OS, you download. You then have to click it, it will run, installing it on the PC.
Then when you go into BB Desktop Manager, it will see that OS on the PC, including all files and tell you if you need to update etc.

Did you remove the files from the correct os folder?

Did you plug in your BB and update your phone afterwards?

The answer is yes to both questions. I did remove files from the correct OS folder and I did update my phone afterwards. I did a reboot and then an extra battery pull.

How about, did you delete the vendor.xml file from the AppLoader folder?

Other than this last thing, I have no idea why this isnt working for you if you followed the directions properly.

Yes I also removed vendoe.xml. Did you remove these medialoader files? If so, did you pick up free memory? How much?
