Bold Sms Problem--plzz Help

Hello,

I just bought unlocked AT&T Bold and so far things are okay except that i can't send any sms!! I used to have BB 8800 and compared the setting and noticed that in the option: Network to send over options were 1)GSM OR GPRS.

Now on my Bold i have different options:

-Circuit switched
-Circuit switched Preferred
-Packet switched Preferred
-Packet switched

So i can't select the option GSM!!! Tried several things:

-Resent the service book! (succeeded)
-Registered through Host Routing Table (succeeded)

But i still can't sent any sms nor find a way to select GSM

Plzzzzzzz Help....Thanks in advance!

No need to double post.

Pick Circuit Switched, I think that corresponds to GSM as far as I know.

Also check your service centre has a +1 in front of it, SMS didn't work for me until I had that.

Reload your OS with a version provided from RIM and remove vender file. Somtimes when phones are unlocked somthing in the OS prevents certain things from working right on other networks. If the software is unlocked but still AT&T's... that may be your issue.

Thx man....sorry but can u tell me how do i do that?? worried that i mess my BB!

You can do one of two things...

First before you even decided which to choice - Back up your contacts and such with your Device Manager

Then Choice:
1) Options>Security Options>General Settings *Press BB Button* *Click on Wipe Hanheld*
2) Click this link and upgrade to a new OS - Starts you from scratch and upgrades also.

Follow this word br word and you will be fine.

*Personaly I dont think #1 will fix the issue.

Again, SMS is a phone/carrier issue, not a RIM issue. It needs to be turned on by the carrier. Drop a dime and call them.

Thanks for the back-up, Dubdub...

He is right what I suggested is all options, assuming you have SMS enable by your carrier and they have you set up correctly.

Thanks Dubdub/Jarrod....

SMS is enabled by my carrier! Plus i don't remember running into this issue in my 8800 which was unlocked too!

Jarrod...one final question....is it okay to upgrade the OS knowing that my devise is unlicked...i.e. is it gonna be locked again??

Jarrod623 11-16-2008 05:34 PM

Not sure, I have never unlocked my phone. May want to wait for someone else to answer before your upgrade.
