RIM to dump BB OS for Symbian

Hog wash. They better not.

snowskier79 10-12-2006 01:07 PM

I find that very hard to believe w/the success and the industry bench mark that they have set.

BB8100 10-12-2006 01:08 PM

As a former Psion/Nokia user

you made me laugh so hard that I think I lost my contact lens!

angrymic 10-12-2006 01:25 PM

As an old Psion fan, I have to say that Symbian is an elegant OS. Still this rumour fits squarely in the 'if it aint broke don't fix it' category.

Wirelessly posted (8700c: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.0) BlackBerry8700/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/102)

I couldn't imagine it either but Wall Street's talkin

Worst Rumor Ever.
Except for the one with RIM and Palm teaming up. That was pretty bad.

Symbian is awful. S-L-O-W.

Think of a nice 7750. That's faster than Symbian!

kmccarthy 10-12-2006 05:00 PM

Haha hog wash

headtailgrep 10-12-2006 07:00 PM

BBChristopher 10-12-2006 07:26 PM

Bad idea...

No way! Not going to happen...

BB OS is about the most stable mobile platform there is.....
Why change it?!!!!

Exactly . Which is why this isn't going to happen, and even if it *does* I am going to keep my 8100 for as humanly possible.

Oh ya one more thing, in the words of Larry The Cable Guy, "That's like wiping before you poop, it just don't make sense!"

OK Psion which lead to the Symbian OS core that we ALL know and see mostly used by Nokia, Sony Ericsson, less by Motorola lately, is still fairly new with the new OS core ... hmm 9.1a just came out early 2005, then 9.2 devices with the S60 GUI layer used by Nokia will debut late this year with the N75, then into next year with N95 (btw, the ONLY device announced with the NEW OS CORE 9.3). The upgrades are WAY to fast for a company like RIM to invest in. Furthermore, pay more royalties to the Symbian alliance which Nokia takes a big chunk fill into THEIR coffers ... AFTER the court case lump sum made by RIM early February this year?

NOT likely and I'll call anyones bluff on this UNTIL I see press release officially by RIM. Maybe as a secondary consumer device lineup ... that maybe but NOT as a complete overhaul!

Java is doing JUST fine.

My rim contact says they are in talks with the makers of Symbian to offload BB OS development, in some part, to symbian.

Apparently, RIM is attempting to reduce overhead? YIKES!!

Galvatron 11-14-2006 03:20 AM

LOL
Yes even apple users say OSX is garbage the palm rumor seems plausable an analyst said. That moterola bought a mail sevice company. Good mail or somthing basicly his therory is that rim will buy up palm to keep the overhead down an get more market share wich would make sense
