PLEASE HELP Phone keeps shutting down less then a week old

I just got my second BB 8310 Curve last saturday when I swapped out the one I had for less then a month because that one was giving me problems. I dont want to go through AT&T warranty because they give you a refurb.

Here is what it does and what I have done to try to fix it. While playing music the phone will shut down and restart. It will do this randomly, there is no one song that makes it restart. This morning I listened to 30 sec of a song then it restarted it self and I started the play list again and I got through about 7 min of music before it restarted. It also does it when I listen to audible books on tape.

I have reformatted my 2g sd card. I have "wiped" my phone. Atleast I think I have. And I "Think" I have installed 4.2 then wiped 4.5 then wiped and now I have 4.7 I "Think".

ARGH can anyone help. Also my Comp OS is Vista.

Wirelessly posted (Verizon 8830)

Try a different media card. Sometimes reformatting will NOT solve a card issie.

Will a card make a phone shut down? Also how do I upgrade my OS to 4.5

It can. Try the device without the media card inserted. You may just have a file on the card that is causing the device to reboot when it reads it.

Latest OS for the 8310:

My wife's curve was doing the same thing, VZW said 4.5 was supposed to correct that, it didn't. VZW is NDA out a new curve. They had me wipe the device and load just contacts and calendar on it, no third party software. Call AT&T tech support and have them walk you through troubleshooting. This way you know everything was done properly.

Now THAT'S funny!

I had an issue where my 8310 would restart when i would listen to a certain song. I just assumed it was a corrupt file...but in your case it doesn't seem to be a corrupt file because you said it happens randomly. But it could be multiple corrupt files. I would try John Clark's suggestion.

John has the right idea for testing this. Even load just one song onto the phone memory and play it and see what happenes.

Sorry, I get really good tech support from VZW. It's worth a shot with AT&T. Even a broken clock is right twice a day.
