activating blackberry with alternate email address

Backstory: We are taking over the IT for a company. I have setup an exchange 2010 server and BlackBerry server on the domain (they are currently using hosted services). We can't use their current DN until the cutover but we want to test everything beforehand. I have another DN I use for testing. I have pointed the A and MX records for my test DN to this site and email is flowing fine. The problem is getting a Blackberry activated using the alternate email. I have changed my primary email to the test address in exchange but when I add a new user in BES it's only finding the real email address not the test (even though in the 'more' info it lists the test email address). It still never gets past contacting server though...

Hopefull, I've explained this well enough. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

It will take 24 hours for that change to be detected by BES.

Does it work today?
