7100g and Jabra BT800 update

I was just on the phone with Jabra support. When he heard what phone I was using, he said, "Let me guess, you have a hard time answering from the headset?"

He said they are working on a firmware update. It will be available for download and install via the USB cable. No timeframe, just that they have been working on it for some time now.

Pairing works fine. The headset works well in general.
Try to answer an incoming call from the headset. You have to press the button multiple times. Sometimes more than others.

Jabra support also said some people also have trouble ending a call from the headset. I haven't seen that one.

exdotcomer 05-03-2005 10:31 AM

you're right- i had to answer on the bb and then use the bt800.
I haven't had that problem yet- "ending a call from the headset".

Jabra is due for an update, that's for sure.

Does the BT800 use the same USB mini-jack as the Blackberries do?

No.

Knowing the issues with the BT800, I went ahead and purchased one anyway. Glutton for punishment? Most likely

I've found that setting the ring tones to "from phone" and the ringer to "silient" makes it easier to answer calls. Killing the vibrate function didn't make any difference for me.

A ray of hope. I tried it also. Still have to constantly press the answer button to answer a call from the headset

what about mute

Answering and ending a call is one thing, but I'm amazed that no one has commented about the non-functional mute. On the 7100 you have to keep the handset out to mute/unmute (using the !/Q/W key) or the dial... not a good solution if you're driving.

The answer/end issues seem to be related to the key lock/security on the BB (our telcom group has a policy to force the keylock, but the timeout is still user selectable) , when unlocked you can also use the screen to select a number to dial out too! Mute just doesn't work no matter what.

Because of these incompatibilities, our telco group has removed this headset from our approved headset list, I'm sure other companies have done the same. I guess corporate approval is not high on Jabra's list... it's too bad since the headset has a lot of potential and they are also risking their brand reputation for future products.

As reported with others, Jabra's tech support hasn't been able to provide any solutions or ETAs for delivery of the fixed code.

Maybe time to buy a MOT headset like the rest of the world :(

According to the Jabra website, the BT800 is not compatible with the 7100. I did not check them all, buit for all of the BlackBerries that I did check, Jabra says the BT800 is NOT compatible with any of them.

I assume that means they MAY function to a degree, but certainly not to the full extent intended.

Read my review, you could have saved time and money. I really wanted to like it as I liked the looks and the feature list is impressive. Too bad they don't work and customer support is a joke!

That's new. When I got the BT800, neither the 7290 or the 7100 were listed, nor was the bt800. I called them to check instead and they were sure it was :( I guess early adopters get burned.

BT is a universal tech... the latest version is 1.2 which is only found in the Motorola 850 BT headset. I have the 7100G and the Motorola 810 which works fine... I am able to answer and hang up calls... I just can't preform voice dialing being that BB's don't have that feature avaiable for their devices...

It seems like a lot of people who use the 7100G are using some kind of Jabra BT headset... It doesn't make sense if the Jabra's aren't compatiable being that it's universal... I may be mistaken...

I really wanted to like it also, if only it would answer calls consistently, most of the time I click on my BB 7100g to answer, to ensure I get the call. I have no issues with ending calls.

I also called customer support and they certainly have shall we say Customer Service issues (waited ~ 1 hr.). However, I got the BT800 at a good price (<$100.00), so I took the chance, hoping Jabra will upgrade the firmware, oh well. I enjoy most of the features this unit provides 8-) .

Peace and blessings,

Azeke

Sounds like the firmware update still has not been released; true?

Other than the issues of answering calls from the headset, do the other features work between the BT800 and 7100g? Obviously voice dialing isn't an issue, that feature is hit or miss on every cellphone I have used anyway.

Does the calledID display? Volume, etc?

Where has everyone bought their BT800 and what have you paid?

Thanks.

Zoinks 05-31-2005 11:14 PM

Correct. No update.

Volume is good and the caller ID works, although it just shows the number and not the name. I would use this headset exclusively if the answer function worked properly.

Until the issue is addressed, I'm sticking with the FlaminGO.

I sent email to Jabra support asking for a status update. Doubt I'll get anything useful , but I'll post what I get back.

spdrcr5 06-01-2005 07:47 PM

Well, I decided to send Jabra an email asking for an update on the BT800 and got a response back from them. Here is the response and it isn't good if true...

Thank you for contacting JABRA North America!

There are no plans for a firmware update to address the issues with the Blackberry bluetooth phones. I would suggest visiting www.blackberry.com every now and then to check for updates, as they would be released by Blackberry.

Should you have any questions, or require additional information, please do not hesitate to contact us at Product Support.

That's complete BS. I dont know of any other headset that has the same issue with the Blackberry, including other Jabras.
